Finally, hopefully the decision stays!
The one lens concept wonderful and liberating.
You soon will be locked in to the lens view.
Don't take different types of film for the SWC. One kind.
I would add/and or take a point and shoot for the wife and kids..

In Dec-Jan i traveled to South Africa.
I only used small point and shoot digitals..
4000 images later. I did have use of my daughter's Nikon rig.
I prefer the small cameras.
Personally i would leave the SWC at home..
add a normal lens for M9. The M8 as backup..
anyway have a safe and lovely trip.

I will post results if I come back with results, Vince.
Tomorrow I am getting a personal articles insurance policy in place.
I am still torn between M9+SWC and M9 +(anything as small back-up), as I imagine myself walking through a market square with all that equipment.
When I start packing, it will happen naturally.

Hi Raid, I think we'll meet in Tuscany. I live not far from Milan but not sure about my programs in the next couple of weeks. Eventually PM for a meeting. And when in Milan, in the center area not far from the cathedral do not miss to visit this place! The name explains everything!
ciao

Easy said, Frank. I worry about hauling lots of stuff, but who knows, I may do it anyways. It is the drive for "purr-fection".

I just returned from italy and I did lots of thinking what to bring, at the end i brought

Gh-1 and and a v4 elmarit, light and unubtrosive kit.

Didnt miss a shot and didnt miss anything..

Sometime gear gets in the way, i should have brought a film m though, for some wider shots loaded with 400 asa colour film, that would have made two focal lenghts out of my elmarit

Raid your ep2 and an m6 seem like a great lineup to me, just decide on 1 or two lenses

I have the M9, so with its full frame sensor, I should be able to use a wide angle lens like the CV 25/4 for narrow roads, and the 35/1.4 as the general purpose low light lens.

The M8 can be a back-up camera with a 50 lens as a mild tele on the M8 and as a normal lens on the M9.

The EP2 was used in my last Cairo trip. It has to stay home this time.
The M8 and the M9 give better quality images.

Raid, when we were in Pensacola a few weeks ago, I marvelled at how you have everything covered in a smallish bag with the M8 and M9. I cannot imagine why you would need anything else and I fully expected you to take the same kit with you when you mentioned another trip to Italy this year.🙂

That would be my choice. Leave everything else at home, enjoy the family, and smell the roses along the way!

Hi Dave,
What you are saying makes sense, but we often do things based on dreams and not based on common sense.

I bought the SWC to use it for architecture and for people. Italy has both to offer, so it is a timely usage of the SWC, especially since we will be at one part of the trip staying for ten days at an apartment, so I will have the chance to (maybe) venture out with the SWC at morning times first, and then switch to (only) the M9 for the rest of the day.

The M9/M8 combo has many merits, I have to admit. The M9 gets the 35/1.4 while the M8 gets the 50/1.4 or 50/2. giving me a short tele on the M8. I often use the M9 in color mode while I use the M8 in B&W mode. The cameras have the same mount, obviously, so it offers added flexibility.

Tomorrow morning I must drive over to a camera repairman who give me an appraisal for replacement value for a personal articles policy, so I better know by then what I will be taking with me.

Dave, your comment hits home strongly because I have loaded up my gear into a camera bag, and it is darned heavy! I must be getting old(er), as I was used in the past to carry many pounds of camera gear, but today, I felt the weight as being too uncomfortable.

I have in the bag:
M9, SWC, Lux 35/1.4, Canon 50/1.4, CV 25/4. 22 rolls of 120 film, CV Meter II, cheap eye glasses fpr focusing when needed, memory cards, 5 extra batteries, charger. It has too many things in it now, and many items will be left home/hotel when in Italy.

I tried out a more practical strategy by using the M9 in a tiny one camera bag, and the SWC in a very small backpack, and it is much better manageable this way.

My homeowner insurance policy will cover items worth up to $2000 overseas, without the need for a separate personal articles policy, so maybe I should only insure the M9 with the Lux with a special policy since the value of the SWC will most likely be estimated with the current cost of a 950SWC, and the M8 costs only $1500 these days, so paying for replacement value (of maybe a M240) is too much.

I will have to think of those roses, Dave ...... maybe, I will just take the two digital cameras for compactness and practicality.

Yeah, I know about those dreams. I used to have them.

BTW, when are you going? I forgot already.😱

But, those roses are sometimes more intoxicating early in the morning before anyone else arises, when it is just you, a camera and being in the moment. I looked up the SWC and can understand the allure. It is a beautiful camera, one that I would enjoy, too.🙂
