Don't understand your POV re: my post...
I agreed with the Concept that its absurd to be such an extreme fundamentalist with Film in the World today
like some are at APUG
They dabble in the World of technology scanning, PP, printing which ineviably can alter the 'Look' of Film
Yet they can only criticize those that use digital/ digital Techniques
Whats wrong with my Thinking ?
I'll tell you what is wrong with it.
You and the other person you quoted are lumping everyone who frequents the site into one broad stroke of hypocrisy. Not everyone who shoots film, scans and and slathers it all over flickr. Some make wet prints that are not to be "shared" on the web but instead, are completed works that are shown in person at a coffee shop, mailed to friends and family or end up on gallery walls.
This is a laurel that some on here like to play games with, to call afoul that APUG it self is a purely digital operative, posts are digital, internet is digital and therefore, the photos that have to be digitized.....are also....digital.
This is what people who just LIVE for the internet love to do, find fault anywhere they can, pull no punches, have a verbal free for all that makes this whole site look bad....and you and Keith made it look BAD Helen...
Do you know how I "share" my work Helen? I shoot an iPhone pic of the actual PRINT in a tray of water, in it's matting or some other contextual narrative that makes it both hard to copy and takes it as far away from the digital junk show as I can. I put flattened fiber portfolio prints in empty outer shells of both a broken iPad-1 and 15" MacBook, just to have a nice jab at the whole notion of showing work like the rest of the world...it's a damn good marketing hook, gallerists and private collectors get it right away and LOVE it.
A 9 year old thread gets revived and *this* is what you do with it, lump everyone on the site into one nice self indulgent bashing.

Refuses to suffer fools
I've recently decided to get back into black and white and even plan for a darkroom thanks to the bad influence of the friendly people here. So I have been also checking out Analog Photography Users Group (APUG). There is a flame war currently going on because some people want to do hybrid analog/digital threads (which I'm also interested in) and the hard core purist analog only crowd really needs to not drink so much coffee. It's the What does traditional really mean? thread.
It's a contrast to the acceptance in this forum of things that are non-rangefinder. A little tolerance goes a long way to promoting the reason for this forum -- those cute little rangefinders. Thanks to everyone here for making this a better place. I doubt I will be going back to APUG. There are some scary people over there!
It's interesting to see how much RFF has changed since this thread was started. I'd go so far as to say that a vocal, active segment of the membership - if not an outright majority - have become very hostile to rangefinders, direct view style shooting and RF manufacturers (especially Leica.) The general level of respect for others has declined, too.
All things must change, but this has not been a change for the better.

I regretted commenting in the first place! I deleted it and left a more positive reply.
Yeah, no fun, I have been there...:roll eyes:
I think in the future, if you are the "lead" poster to either start a thread or revive one, instead of fully deleting the whole post, just edit it and make a clear note as to why, it generally saves a lot of grief.

Yes indeed you are quite right in my book
Its ALL about the Image
As long as it Moves the Viewer
Makes no difference be it Film or Digi
I was just agreeing in the absurdity of being a hardcore
Film fanatic like some on APUG yet they can
Use today's technology in getting their work out which may alter the original film negative

My My My... seems like everyone takes everything personally... question a brand? Get called an idiot. Question a method? Get called a zealot or self indulgent.
Lots of folks seem to have lost some civility in their ability to discuss with others or see another point of view... perhaps we just need more people using these things:

to lighten things up a bit
Maybe I'll just go hide over there until all can just cool their jets.
Peace Out,
Dave

Dan you shouldn't take this thread to seriously remember the APUG thread about the lab guys who made a movie about filmshooters nothing good came out of taking the negative comments to seriously.
And you know the truth all digital photographs start out as analogue pictures that have to be converted to digital for storage and are again reconverted to an analogue medium so they can be viewed by humans the digital info is not an image.
I also like the I Pad Macbook idea.
APUG can be a great place just like RFF and the LF Forum talk about not accepting anything but LF photographs , damn LF Zealots.

Bashing one's head against the wall or with others is one of those elements that is a by-product of being stuck in the past.
Sometimes its painful to wake up and realize that what one valued and practiced for so long is suddenly redundant.
Film users and believers have my sympathy.
This is the kind of crap that drove me away from RFF.

Thank you, RFF'ers, for being sane folks.

Before I fall into bed, isn't it all about the image rather than how you achieve it?
Not for all. Not for me. Consider the water colourist and an oils painter. Many prefer and specialize in a particular medium.

I guess the poor sods feel that they're under siege from the digital tide.
The abuse is their version of pouring boiling oil from the ramparts! LOL![]()
Oddly, my friends who are printmakers and use old processes (stone litho, etc.) do not suffer from this mentality.

Yep, I know. I just thought it was unnecessary to refer to people as "Sods" or with "Stupidity" because they are likely doing their damnedest to be as analog as they can in a world that shoves digital down everyone's throats.
This web persona, this name I have, it is not me, it is my typing....it's just not a good thing for me to be on these sites, but I find my self doing it when I am on a CPU or GPU intensive task on the computer like I am this week. You can always tell when I am at the end of my commercial ski shooting season, I am so ready to be done with digital, LOL!
I want to go out and shoot some 4x5 but it is windy...maybe the Blad then. Thank god I am done with digicrap until late June!

Holy smokes, this thread has gone off the deep end! When Helen starts getting bashed or being held up as an example of anti-film and pro-digital, things have gone haywire! As just an observer, she to me seems to epitomize what many of us here are--or me, at least: analog at heart and still shooting film, but also not allergic to, and in some way coming around to embracing and/or using, digital. What is so wrong with that?
I respect that we each want to find our communities that most align with our interests. But why get nasty toward those you see things differently?

You totally misconstrued my written word
to your twisted perspective
I did not accuse and lump together everyone at APUG
I said 'some' ....
It seems You have a rather sharp and mean spirited approach
I only questioned Your thoughts. when you seemed to single me out... You got ugly and accusatory
As a moderator I could suggest to the Mod Forum
a time out for You but I'd rather not waste any more time on even responding or thinking of You.
