I recently processed this image which is another version of an image I posted below and made slightly before it. I initially preferred the other shot as it had one of the subjects looking directly at the camera but after processing this one I think its quite nice too. (And sharper).
Through a Window - Faces from the Gloom_2 by Life in Shadows, on Flickr
I do not think I have posted this one here yet but it was made in the same place as the above one (The Hopetoun Tea Rooms in Melbourne) It's a nice location for candid photos but sometimes difficult to pull off, due to the "busy" background and mixed lighting. In this shot the background is not quite so dark but still reasonably so. Capturing subjects closer to the front window helps as they are lit by the light coming through the window from the arcade outside.

And I think this one kind of qualifies for this thread with the shaft of light picking out the subject against a darker ground.

So nice, Out to Lunch. So nice! There is always something about Buddhist monks that is captivating and this captures that nicely.

Peterm1 and Out to Lunch, I found it in my fathers college negatives. My guess is he was a frat brother of my dad's. Although he looks a little Bohemian to be a rah rah frat boy.

Golly there are some good photos coming up on this thread. Thanks to everyone.
I suddenly recalled this old image which I do not think I have posted here in this thread which is odd as the thing that I always liked about is is how the ray of light makes a feature of the mother and baby's faces as well as her hands the three of which create a kind of triangle of interest.

Shac
Well-known
Shac I like both of your posts but this one in particular. The sharp but gently rounded rendition offered by the Nikkor is sublime.
Thank you Peter. This was a major crop of the original negative - just indicated how well 4x5 holds up

Thanks, John. Very plausible. I was mostly intrigued by his attitude -which may very well be considered as 'debonair', and the design of his jacket. A student setting explains it all.
