I'll have an unopened Canson Paper Trial Pack, and some HP kits to make greeting cards that include envelopes. I deem these are prizes for the new digital catagory.
I will have some Italian goat leather kits to be supplied as raw material for recovering cameras. I'll bring my Nikon F3 HP that I recovered to show off, and Bob will be bringing his Contax that he recovered to show off. Simply the best.
I'm thinking that the grand prize this year will be the Busch Pressman that I bought for $27.00 from the Housing Works right across the street from Puck Fair. This camera is the 2x3 version and not the bigger 4x5 version, it is remarkably clean, the shutter seems spot on, the glass is clean, comes with the CalArt rangefinder. To shoot this camera one needs a back. A remarkable sample of this camera. I already have too many cameras, and while this is a very cool object, it is doubtfull that I will ever shoot this camera. It is a bit of a time capsule due to its condition and was a very lucky find. Understand that I will first use this Busch Pressman as my entry to the cheap camera contest. Let's see if someone can steal my trophy for "Best In Show."
BTW for those who never experienced one of our annual competitive events that the general mob kinda makes the final decision, and understand that since its a New York crowd it can get rowdy. LOL

Feb 8th it is. I will look for prizes.
Are we going to have Sam walk around the bar and talk about what he did in the past year promoting rangefinders?

Called Puck Fair and asked when they will be closing. They said they have no idea and that once they know, they will still have 45 days. Looks like we can still go in Feb (if I understood correctly). We will confirm during Jan's meet-up. He wasn't happy with me asking this...he seemed annoyed.

Good to know. This could potentially go on for a long time, and then they will suddenly be gone like David Copperfield. I'm sure the guy doesn't want to be reminded of this fate.
I'll make some hoods for the prizes.

Gear alert:
I don't think I'll make the January meetup unless I can get a ride to the city but I'll be at the Beauty Contest for sure.
Anyway, the last week has seen a bit of gear acquisition on my part.
First is a Nikon D70 converted to full time 720nm infrared use.
Second is Maitani's 2.1cm Nikkor O lens.
I can't wait to shoot with either of them!

I think I will be gunning for this one. I have some projects in mind and I could definitely use a Busch Pressman to do it. Have some unusual stuff. No gear alerts from me, that would be a spoiler.
Also, I will donate a Diana F+ white edition, fancily called Edelweiss, to the prize pool.

I was skeptical when Cal said he had found a camera for 'no money' at housingworks. I saw it yesterday, and can confirm that it is a true Cal-cam. Perfect leather covering, and polished chrome with a spotless lens. All it needs is a nice grafmatic 23 to go with it.

Sounds very nice. I will have to bring something extra strange to win it. It happens, I have a rollfilm back that could be made to work with it. Hmm...

We need a category for the person who can bring in the highest number of non-functioning cameras. Also, heaviest paperweight, or most costly paperweight.

We'd have to have that meetup in a warehouse. There would just be too much junk!
We could probably show up those crooks on 17th St who ply broken cameras for like new prices.

Sam,
No one in recorded history has won back to back grand prizes. Good Luck. I suggest you bring out your nuclear weapon because this years prize is a great-great-great one worth fighting for. Remember our only rule: "No Biting." LOL.
The Busch Pressman has not a single issue and I would say that the shutter speeds are spot on. I has a CalArt rangefinder, an external VF'er and also ground glass. I say the only thing that would make this a better camera is if it was a 4x5 version.
While available as a prize I will now limit the competition to raise the level of aggression of the contest to the "Bargain Contest" which has a limit set by B-9 of a cost of under $250.00. Also know that this camera is also my entry into the bargain camera contest, so basically you will be fighting with me for my own camera. Know that I willingly offer this camera as a prize because it really should be used and that with just a film back it is good-to-go, but with me this camera will likely be just a trophy/shelf queen, and I deem that is not a good thing.
Also know that Christion has some Linoff that he has as a contender that he only paid $200.00 for. Like the NSA I'm just passing on the smut.
As always the verdict of the mob rules and not always does the best camera win (ask John Chee) LOL.
BTW I was a bad boy and the "Canson Trial' pack is no longer available as a prize. Sorry. I found the Baryta and Plantine Fiber Rage too tempting to try in my new printing rig.
Many thanks to Christian for being my help desk when I felt exasperated and was stuck on how to import some profile/curves into the LR5 library so I could softproof. As you know from other years "Bribes are allowed." LOL.
Know that I favor the Busch Pressman going to someone that will use it. You having a back already weighs strongly in your favor. I'd bring that back to the "Camera Convention."

GOOD NEWS: It seems that it has been confirmed that Puck Fair will endure the month of February due to some 45 day notice rule that is required. In other words no advance notice has happened yet.
Please know that this year's "Convention" will likely be crazier and bigger than the "Leica M-body Beauty Contest," the "Camera Beauty Pagent," the "Gearfest," and the "Camera Parade."
Great to know that we can take over the bacony for security reasons.
Let's firm up the date to Sunday February 8th 1:00 PM, but know that I will be there early at 12:00 to secure the area. (Remember when the NYFD tough guys took our round table in the back?)
