Don't pass up a good shot. The event is for fun and excitment. I think you will find the excitement and challenge a great learning experience. In the end I think some restrictions, and some outside direction has opened up photography for me. Really got me out of a deep rut and opened up a lot of possibilities. Really helped me grow as a photographer.
I would never want to be a pro fashion photographer: it is hard work; but this is as close as I would want to get where it is still a fun challenge that is really interesting. People in this industry are a bit crazy, but also they are putting themselves out there in a big way. This is their life and what they live for. Fashion is a brutal industry and the pace is maddening.

Instead if just simple desatration try Silver Efx Pro on the file when you go from color on the M9 to B&W. If fact it might be worth while to get a tripod, both cameras, and make a trip to central park and take some shots from the same location. Then process the M9 with Silver Efx Pro and run a couple of large prints. I would still bet on the Mono, but you never can tell.

John has mucho experience with the post processing. I believe he used Silver Effects on this image.
I think the big difference is the lack of Bayer filter array that adds to the Monochrom's higher resolution. Also there is a lot less processing of the data since with the Monochrom is just measuring light levels (Luminance). I'm thinking the math involved into creating and sorting data to have color adds some sloppiness.
The Monochrom is easily the clear winner by good margin.

I checked out the auditorium and basically it is a theater space about the size of a moderately sized movie theater. There are real dressing rooms, the house lighting is incandescents, there is a u-shaped isle that wraps around the back and sides.
The theater is right off this grand lobby and is sunken by around 8 steps. The new count is about 250 people, but know that the 20 round tables will seat only ten people each.
I had once thought the space was a long rectangle, but the rectangle is more squarish. Also found out that this event will have mucho press. "El Dario" the newspaper is covering the event, as well as some Asian organization, plus Fordham will have a video crew and their own pro photgraphers and their student newspaper. Anyways this will be like a real media event. Hopefully we all don'y get in each other's way. I hope this is condicive for me shooting the 28.
Maggie has given me the responsibility of documenting the event photographically. What is important for me to cover is the setup, behind the scenes and in particular the Designer and Models when they make their entrance into the show. My coverage is more like a media event news story POV.
John and Brian will be capturing the moments that are more personal and intimate to capture the interactions of all the people that include hair, makeup, stylists, designers, models and of course the audience. I was told that the 19-21 models (3 models per designer) along with about a two minute self introduction of each designer (10- some are accessory designers) will create a show that will last about 40 minutes. My shooting is kinda more structured and broad than Brian's and John.
The panelists are all kinda big names and heavyweights. Somehow the transition from Fashion show to Panel Discussion is only a ten minute intermission where the Designers and Models will be mingling with the audience.
BTW Maggie already is getting booked up for Fashion Week, Tranoi, and someother fashion events that come after Fashion Week that involve the smaller up and coming new Designers. She is now "in the tent" for NYC Fashion Week, and somehow I also got "in the tent" for a Salvatore Ferragamo event which is a big deal.
Anyways life is mucho crazy. Also check out today's post. I took the shot yesterday with my 50 Lux "E60" at what formally was the Wintergarden. The long white coat that Maggie is modeling is a sample that a designer gave to Maggie right before Christmas that is part of her Spring collection. Take note that while this sample coat has a belt, the ones in the Spring collection do not. Basically Maggie owns a prototype.

For B&W with proper contrast filter mounted in front of the lens, I will take Monochrome in a heart beat. Even for outputs from Monochrome, Silver Efex may still come in handy to achieve certain effects ... a lot faster than having it done in LR or PS. For the image that I shot with my then just released M9 in an old house in Hong Kong that Cal mentioned, I wish Monochrome was an option at the time of capture.

I think so too. I also think this is the best way to exploit my friends. LOL.
BTW I optimized the image size and added borders to frame one of my street shots in a Muji frame. The optimum image size is 12.64 x 13 with a full one inch border. For $32.50 I am very pleased.
Framing and matting can add mucho costs to any exhibition. Even at $32.50 to hang 20 prints is $650.00.
Anyways I already am feeling the fashion frenzy. For me it is not just Fashion Week: it is like Fashion Month because it really is a string of annual events that cause a frenzy.
The designer who made the white coat that "Maggie" is modeling was very happy with the shot. Way more crazy things are happening now after a year and a half of blogging.

I'm also gunning to use my 28/1.4 AF-D. Using a camera as intended is perhaps smart. LOL.
I'll be lending my chrome 50 Lux ASPH to Brian for use on his M-246.
I figure me shooting wide will be best to cover the event, and as you know I'm primarily a wide shooter.
It might be difficult to use longer lenses with the big crowd. With a 28 I can always jump in front of someone's shot which I'm known to do. LOL.
Anyways I expect more fasinating fashion craziness in the up and coming season, as Maggie developes more of a presence. Who would know that she was once a shy woman.

Fashion Show update: So the "call" is to be at the Pope Theater at 3:00 PM at 60th and Columbus. There will be no intermission inbetween the fashion show and the panel discussion, and the overall event should be only 2 hours (6-8).
I was told that since it is a theater that there are a real dressing rooms, and this intern (Maggie's) named Chris is a real pro on organizing and producing events due to his theater backgound.
Somehow all the last minute details fell into place that involve so many people. Should be a great shooting opportunity, but be aware that there will be many photographers due to press coverage.
Crazy is that Maggie will do an intro as Dr. Slater the academic in the beginning of the program, and then she has to do the changeover backstage into the Accidental Icon as a model and part of the finally.

You know me I'm a lazy slacker. LOL. As you know I don't post, I don't Text, I don't do social media. In a way this annoys people, and perhaps this is why I am so widely known. LOL.
I'm sure John will be posting some shots, and I think "Maggie" will exploit the show as Fordham where she works as an academic is exploiting her. The next month is all about NYC Fashion week and there are all these other events clustered around Fashion Week set up by people who are not in the tent like hungry boutique designers that are up and coming.
Anyways Maggie has only been blogging for about a year and a half, and now she is getting invited into the tent. At this point I consider myself her entourage. LOL. I'll be going to the Salvatore Ferragomo show this year and officially "I'll be in the tent." LOL.

Sorry I did not see you last night. I had your scarf.
I downloaded the images last night. I have two great shots that could be anywhere shots that I love because they are interesting and have nothing to suggest the event. One is of this interesting African-American girl that was lanky backstage trying to get the audio running that looks like an urban street shot; and this other is of this interesting girl just hanging out that also looks like a street shot. Perhaps I'll try to do a B&W conversion and see how they print.
I have a few "art shots" in the green area. I really took advantage of the models and makup artists shooting a 28/1.4 AF-D with a flash to get close and personal in a crowded room filled with make-up mirrors.
With shooting the fashion show I had limited shots and a bad background. There were episodes of camera lock-out due to no locked focus that caused frustrating lost shots, but the flash worked great otherwise. Would of been better if I had more time during the fashion show to work things out. Oh-well.
The experience in the green area was the best shooting, but it was crowded and hot.
For John and Brian: Did you guys notice that "Nick" the make-up guy somehow became an imprompt model. He was the only guy model. In the make-up room he was the guy in the center with the orange sweater. I guess they were short a model. LOL.
Also know that during the introduction I had to run and get "Maggie's" sunglasses out of her bag locked in the office while she was doing a wardrobe change and getting ready to come out disguised as the Accidental Icon wearing Arlinda's dress.
