I would like to file the flange on my CV 40/1.4 to bring up the 35 framelines. Is there a place on the web with instructions and photos that could walk me through the process? I know nothing about lens construction.

No.No. Butchery!

You only need to remove 0.5mm of material at a 90deg angle to the flat of the mount.

A few wriggles of a flat file against the frameline actuating surface will do it.

I cannot post an example right now, but do not file as described in the above link. It will work, but is way ott

When using the flat file tape over all surfaces not wanting to be marked. Tape makes a handy stop point on your filing surface also.

Tape / mask off the rear element and surrounding areas so that no swarf enters the lens body / focus mechanism.

It sounds like I need a photo using the CV lens (is the dot on the Leica in the same place as a CV?).

Look into the lens flange on the camera while wiggling the frame selector lever. You should see something moving up and down just behind the flange. That's what the lug on the lens bayonet moves when mounting the lens. The 35mm frame is the default position when nothing is pushing it down. Figure out which bayonet lug on the lens is on that side and take a few strokes with the file to shorten the lug. The first stroke or two is cutting hard chrome, but then you're into the softer brass so be careful that you don't file more than you need to, although it won't hurt anything if you do. It doesn't have to be perfectly square or even neat to keep it from pushing against the selector, just shorter.
