I am not sure if KEH ships outside the US though.

Their grading system is okay. I usually get those with grades EX and up. A bit expensive compared to auction sites but they are very reliable. I haven't been disappointed with the used products I got from them.

Got my LTM39-M bayonet adapter (IZBOO) from them years ago...before internet, before eBay and emails. :D

Ooops, I meant 'Botica de Sta Cruz'. Speaking of this firm. I stumbled into something INTERESTING whilst foraging through eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7586836162&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

It's a reprint of a 1930 Leica instruction booklet. If you scroll down the eBay page and look at the enlarged photo, you'll be able to read at the bottom of the reproduced cover the addresses of Leitz's US offices. The third line reads, "Philippine Islands: Botica de Santa Cruz, Manila PI"....we already had Leicas 5 or 6 years after it debuted!

Count me in as another Pinoy on this list! And I couldn't help but notice the reference to Botica Sta. Cruz. That was owned by my great grandfather. His son, my lolo was a big photography buff he had all sorts of cameras from the first canon AF camera to Hassy's. Its just too bad that he passed away a few years before I got into photography. We would have spent more time together. Lately, my lola and tito have been telling me stories about the Botica and how you could practically get anything German from them from chemicals to cameras.

We just recently found some photos of Manila that he took right after the war! From what I heard, he just decided to drive out to all these places and photograhed what the war had done to Manila. I'll post some scans of these photo's one day.

Anyway, glad to be on the forum with you guys.

Oh and you would've liked my lolo too, Jay. He was a big fan of Russia as well... and he worked for a company that did business with russia :)

My mother worked at Botica de Sta Cruz in the early 1960s. That was her first job. She had some Agfacolor snapshots. I think they had employee discounts :). BSC was were Agfacolor CN 17 got developed and printed- and by what she told me, developing was in one of the rooms, set up not much differently from BW printing. Developing was done by hand, and was expensive. There's even one 120 Agfacolor negative which I printed which had the Hasselblad "double V" notches on the side. Never found such notches in any old negative other than this. This pic must have been shot by your lolo's Hassy??

The old Agfacolor CN17 negatives, despite being 40+ years old, were still printable. I tried printing them about 4 years ago, when I still had an active colour darkroom. The old strange looking yellow-masked negatives made prints with good colours which may looked better than what they got when these were first printed. Vintage Agfacolor prints I've seen are mostly purple now.

They also sold Leica- to this day, I'm still asking here why she never bought a Leica! :)

Jay

PS

Was your grandpa the one who married a German? Mrs Gutierrez, whom I met 10 years ago when she worked at the Goethe-Institut married someone from Botica de Sta Cruz, and was also into photography.

Jay,

I couldn't help but notice your reference to Mrs. Gutierrez. I also knew her at the Goethe Institut and was amazed when I heard her speak perfect Tagalog. Do you know if she is still there or has retired?

I haven't been to the Goethe-Institut in ages. Last time I saw Mrs Gutierrez was probably a decade ago. Her pre-teen granddaughter was there; she must have retired by now. One time I was there, I heard a lady speak to the guard in Tagalog- imagine how surprised I was when I turned my head and found a Nordic, blue-eyed, blondish lady speaking it flawlessly and without any accent! :D

Hey! I'm Filipino, and I use a RF camera too! I'm not in the Philippines -- I'm in California. I saw a thread on Boracay -- my dad grew up in Nabas. Unless the road's changed, you go through it from the Kalibo Airport.

Speaking of which, if anyone is in the area, or going through the area, I'd love a photo of a sign that says Solanoy Store.

Hi Jay!

I did some research and Mrs. Gutierrez is my grandfather's cousin! Also I found out that Botica Sta. Cruz was a source of everything German back in those days-- Leica, Agfa, chemicals, etc. The business eventually went to one of my lolo's sibling and it eventually became Photochem (?). They also dealt in photographic equipment for medical purposes and became an Olympus distributor/dealer:)

Its a shame I can't find any my lolo's Leicas, Hassy's, or even his Olympus cameras. Could've saved me a LOT of money! :)

I'm going to give your homemade Rodinal a go one of these days after this bottle of HC-110 is up. Its nice that I work for a company that sells Paracetamol :)
