at least it'll be pretty easy to identify the culprit ;)

Seems the lens takes regular 39mm filters and I'm pretty sure RobertWhite sells these as well, since they are stocking the lens. Elseif: eBay = your friend!

When do we get to see some shots of and with that nice kit of yours?:rolleyes:
 
oh, and do wipe that lens very carefully! I use a synthetic household cloth, the very fluffy one and only breathe on the lens a bit. That's it, nothing chemical please!
Dust, BTW, is nothing serious, you will never notice it in shots.
 
Sara on the Robert White web page you list above there's a link for a UV filter for your lens. The link is under "Related Products" just underneath the picture of the lens.

The UV filter they are selling is the B+W UV 010 39mm with multi-resistant coating and it's the best filter you can get. :)
 
unless the stuff on the lens is ruining your photos, I wouldn't touch the surface, just leave it until your next lens CLA.
 
Thanks for the helppppppppp arghhh I know it's just that there's some mark on the lens that's making me wanting to kill someone at the moment. Do you think, if I brought my camera to some Leica shop, that they would use help me clean the lens?

I'll check out Robert White tomorrow - thing is, I'm going to France on Thursday and sort of desperate to get a filter before that [hopefully inexpensive one :p].

Ah! I actually shot my final year photography project on my Leica (well, on the Hasselblad too), but I did get some shots on my Leica - do you have Flickr? I do have some shots on my Flickr - but I did not label which are Leica :p hehe!
 
Oh yes, what I had forgotten to ask is, that any [39mm] filter will fit on my lens? Or it's a specific one? I only ask this because I always assume that each brand of lens has it's own filter or something.
 
Yes. Any 39mm filter will fit. B+W, Heliopan, Hoya, whatever. As long as there's no damage to the threads on either the lens or the filter it will screw in easily. I understand your annoyance, I use UV filters on all my lenses and as soon as I take one off to clean it or something I manage to stick a big fat finger on the front element. Aaargh! :(

Whaaaaaaaaa? Modern lenses aren't likely to be harmed by cleaning, even if you go about it like a ham-handed gorilla, so long as you're not rubbing it with something abrasive. True, some people spend too much time cleaning their lenses, but some people are way too wary of cleaning.

I say be smart about it - clean the lens when it actually needs it, don't worry about it otherwise. I also say run a proper lens hood and avoid UV filters unless you're shooting in an environment that really warrants some protection like where there's salt water spray or at a race track.

IMO, OP's best bet is the proper hood, if she doesn't already have one:
