Truth is beauty
I'm really happy about the X100 finally being available, so all this will stop... Wait: it could be worse then! 🙂
Cheers,

You claim that you see deep shadows, a lot of dynamic range and many other stuff, but I don't and neither are a lot of experienced members in this forum...
A mass produced, digital P&S? Who would have figured.
Buy it, don't buy it. It's just another camera. Geeze.
You're talking to a bunch of people who, if they're like me, will never be able to afford an M9. Fuji has just made available a camera that will have a similar user experience to Leica, and priced it for the masses who love photography. That to me is breathtaking enough. I'm glad that you can afford your forumla 1 Louis Vitton camera, but I can't. At least be happy for those of us who will stretch our wallets for the X100, and love it.
It's not a P&S, by any reasonable definition.
Some people buy cameras to take pictures. Other people buy cameras so that they can talk about the cameras they've bought.
This is debatable. You're on a forum where, according to the forum owner, the Hexar AF is a point-and-shoot.
If anything, it's the digital equivalent of a medium-to-high-end fixed-lens point-and-shoot - Ricoh GR1, Yashica T5, Nikon 35Ti, Contax T3.
And yet other people don't by cameras because they're not really available yet, but it doesn't stop them from talking about them, holding their breaths and watching it become ever more breathtaking, picking words until $1200 becomes cheap and an autofocus compact becomes something different than a point-and-shoot, wondering what bags might go with it, and all the time musing about the wonders it will do for their photography.
It was a bit like that already when the Ricoh GR-D came out, and a bit more like that when the Sigma DP1 came out, but now it's quite extreme. I only wish Fuji would put the X100 on the market already in numbers so that people stop hyperventilating.
I think people reacted a bit too much to the word "Breathtaking." I think these photos are very nice. I'll give the camera AND photographer credit as, imho, he's a talented shooter.
I like the colour palette (more blues/greens than reds) and captures in low light. Don't know if this is the shooter or camera or both. What I do know is that if I can produce photos like this out of the X100, I will be happy and give the camera credit. If I can't, I'll chalk it up to user error. 🙂
I wish he would post EXIF with the photos. If the shooter is reading this, could you?
I also note there are some more photos up there now, including some videos, which I like.
This camera seems to couch its appeal in solely in its appearance: very old school/film/Leica. It looks like a Leica if one glances casually, but then if you look at the back, ooh, it now looks like a digital Leica. Once you remove the resemblance - let's say Fuji just made another P&S with an optical viewfinder that looks like a dozen others - there would be no hoopla. I think it appeals to those of us who can't afford an M8 or M9. In terms of IQ, how does it compare to a Canon G11? No one knows. Yet.
It's a small, fixed lens, autofocus camera with lots of cool modes and stuff. It may be a very good P&S, but it's still a P&S.

Fine, call it a point and shoot. But then you have to call Rolleis, Fuji GA645s/670s/690s, and early barnack Leicas, point and shoot.
