First few photos from THE BEAST (my new D800E)

Been too busy the last few days to put the Beast through its paces after receiving it a few days ago. I finally had some free time this evening, but it's too cold to go outside. Not Edmonton cold or even Midwest cold, but cold enough for us thin-blooded Southern Californians.

First, here's the Beast with the Kiron 105/2.8 Macro lens, mounted on my macro focus rail setup:

agreed! wonder if Kiron 105/2.8 differ much from Nikkor 105/2.5 that is also great lens.

The Kiron is a macro lens. Like all macro lenses, it is bitingly sharp, and thus probably not the best for portraiture. In fact I believe the Kiron is optimized for close distances and less so for medium to long distances. The 105/2.5 AI/s (I have it as well) is obviously a lovely portrait lens.

Congrats to you as well! I need to take some time to read the manual (yes, I'm one of the few who actually do) and need to configure my menus. I plan to set some time aside this week to get to to know the beast, to get ready for my nephew's wedding next week (I'm just a guest, not shooting it).

I am planning to go back to doing a lot of macro photography (like I used to), and would like to print large prints for my wall.

I do what I preached :angel:. Read the manual, all 400 pg. (Even while waiting at the barber shop).
Thankfully some are not as important (all the image editing section for example).

Some very minor yet very appreciable changes how the settings are done. And the possibilities to customized it seems endless.

This will be fun and rewarding.
