provia film setting, 400 or 800 ISO, auto contrast in photo shop on all shots, auto color on the trunk/rocks/leaf shot, IIRC.

i think i auto-colored this one, too, in photoshop; bit of cropping as well:

Make sure to go through the different filters, which offer quite nice possibilities.

I find the base b/w a little "flat".

You are off to a good start Paul, you will find that it takes some time to get used to it (like a new car) but eventually it all becomes very natural. I too look forward to your B&W shots, I can recommend Silver Efex Pro 2 if you decide to use RAW.

Oh you got one! Congratulations Paul :D
I'm learning how to use one this weekend also.
It's a sweet little camera and will make a nice digital companion .
If you are not used to large digital files I would recommend looking into Lightroom3 or Aperture3 and some external storage.
Both LR3 and A3 are great editing programs and quite easy to set up and learn. The library , organize, preview aspects of both are very useful also especially, for larger files.
Enjoy!

In all fairness, the clearcut shot was more about having good morning light and the fog than the camera being magical. The X100, just like any other digital, is just a camera... a nice one, but it isn't magical.
