The best camera is one that still works!
I've been carrying my Leica II and 50mm f3.5 red scale Elmar around for the last couple of days in my Domke F5XB.
It's hilarious ... the Domke's not eaxacty a big bag but the little Leica looks totally lost in it and when you pic the bag up you would hardly know there was a camera in it!
Sug ... that is a fantastic photograph!

It's cool to see so much Barnack love around...
My story is taking ages... I sent (ten days ago) the IIIC back to KEH and they'll send me a IIIF, but today they just told me the IIIC hasn't got there yet... Must be about to... So, with the best luck, it'll take two more weeks to have my IIIF here... Then, I'll test it to find out if I should send it to Youxin... On an unknown month, I'll paint it olive green and black... Mmmmm... I guess I'll post some images next year...
Cheers,
Juan

just a Thought.... I find the screwmount cameras to be FASTER in shooting
than my M ( be it any M i have/had ...M2 ,M4, M5 M6 )
I seem to go through a Roll of Film FASTER
even though one has to 'LOOK' thru two different windows
The RF window is so EASY to FocUS its mind blowing
Is this Your Experience too ?
why can't an 'M' have 1.5 magnification
and who needs a patch ...

They are not really faster, but because they're smaller they are easier to carry around and so you take more pictures.

Yes, Helen. I agree with you on the "faster" focusing with separate RF window.
I often shoot without RF focusing on both M and Barnack, but when I do focus using RF patch on M, I often have to search for the right spot to focus with because the patch is floating in the view and sometimes I can't figure out what I'm looking at.
With Barnack, the whole view is doubled in RF window, and the doble images are not far out from each other so it's very easy to focus down. And of course higher magnification of RF view is a huge plus. At least for me, Barnack's focusing is easier and fool-proofed when I need it.
BTW, your Summar shots are impressive, Helen. I might have to try one on my IIIf (very close sister cam to yours.
This thread is giving me another wave of massive GAS attack...

Helen,
I tend to be fastest with my M7/8 (AE) but I must say the 1.5 mag of a late Barnack is REALLY nice. Have you tried a collapsible Summicron on the III.....it's nice

By the way, all of this Barnack talk is going to make me get my sweet little IIIG CLAd (left it in the case and the viewfinder needs cleaning). My Dad's camera, will be fun to use again once it's fixed up.
I actually learned photography on a IIIC, loved it. I find the viewfinder on the C difficult to use with glasses now, however.

Helen,
The Bessa-T is an M-mount camera with a 1.5x RF like the IIIf. However, it needs an external viewfinder (which is ok by me) and is much larger than a Barnack (and not as nice). You might want to try the OKARO orange filter on the IIIf - it makes the RF even better!
I think that a IIIf is a perfect street camera. It is very fast once you get used to it. What slow me down the most is the advance knob. Fortunately, TomA is going to help me out with that.

Ditto my experience...the 0.72 of a standard M gives more frameline options but sacrifices focusing accuracy...takes more time for me to nail focus.

When I got my black Bessa T, by the half of the first roll I already knew I liked it so much that I decided I needed to order -immediately- an identical second one just in case, thinking of the future... Apart from being a modern and metered Barnack, its external and fast "arrows" meter is a joy for metered wideangle shooting without taking the camera to eye level. And they have an all metal chassis but weigh nothing... Not focusing and composing through the same window, made me dedicate my mind to both things -one after another- in a more comfortable and dedicated way... Some days I think ordering a third one wouldn't be a bad idea...

Juan

Another chapter in my never ending (never starting?) story...
KEH received their bad shutter, returned IIIC yesterday... They just sent me a message telling me unfortunately they found -during the shutter test I asked them to do- my second choice and awaited IIIF Black Dial's shutter wasn't working well either!
As I started to get tired of all this, I ordered (third time) a IIIF Red Dial, and I asked KEH to send it not to Barcelona but directly to Youxin's house in Canton, MA... He told me he'll be back from China in a few days... I guess this is what I should have done from the beginning...
Cheers,
Juan

Thanks, Rob... It will take some more weeks, but when I get it, finally I'll trust it, and I guess I'll happily take care of it... I just can't wait!
