I thought the strap from your camera was around your right arm at first...

Who knows, you might wear me down one of these days, I have a couple "project" black paint Standards-- working well, but one has about 30% covering left, the other's covering is cracked in one place and loose. They were like puppies in the windows, could not leave them there.
All 8 pages of this thread-- and yet my Avatar has no RF nor can change lenses, I'll have to consider sending it for a refit. I missed the free shutter check at the last show as well, though the test roll seemed OK. ;-)

Searching completed ebay auctions shows 4 recent 1f sales from $212 to $458...
The one in the photo I posted above has essentially no signs of use...I'm wondering if I should keep it that way, and get a user...

Yes, I know...I missed those (wasn't looking yet). They don't come up often, in the US, without buy-it now prices. I'm not that patient either I guess... I want one now! I prefer lugs and plan to use it with a 28mm, so I think a Ic or If is what I truly want. Working on getting one as we, uh, write ...

How true is the recommendation of storing a IIIF with the shutter uncocked? Was it ever recommended by Leica?

Juan,
Good question - I don't think I have ever seen it in writing. It's an interesting thought - all that cocking does is wind more tension onto the springs in the curtain rollers. I guess a lot depends on the quality of the springs - the metal and tempering etc. Some makes almost insist that you leave them cocked - Rollie 35 for instance, where you can't collapse the lens otherwise.
Personally, I choose not to do it with Leica type shutters

I just missed an ugly 1c on ebay by $5... just couldn't bring myself to pay more due to pealing chrome. Had someone offer me a 1c for $995... :bang: Oh well, gotta keep looking.

As long as you only use it and don't abuse it, you shouldn't do much damage to it. Cameras are made to be used.

Hi John,
Thanks for your comment... I have never cared about not cocking any camera... I asked because I just googled leica IIIf and the first result was... Ken Rockwell...

1/20th to 1/500 on the If...for some reason the shutter is noticeably louder than my IIIc...

Digitalintrigue, is it me or is the horizon on your SBOOI slightly off? Mine had the same when I bought it, and I corrected it. But now that I see yours I'm wondering if that is supposed to be the way it is.
From the "Summitar The Star" topic:
Leica I , Uncoated Summitar, Ilford XP2 Super.
Leica IIIC (with lightleak grr), Uncoated Summar, Ilford XP2 Super

Hi Rick,
Interesting comment - I just got the SBOOI that coelacanth referred to from Dan Tamarkin - great condition and I'm already loving it. I don't see any alignment problems, but how would you correct it? Is it that little grub screw on the bottom?
BTW - I think the first shot above is great, real period feel. Two questions about the second "partisan" shot - what is the weapon, Sten possibly, or a copy? Second, which edge of IIIc is your leak? My non-stamped K has a small piece of shutter curtain glued on the crate below the slow speed dial - it's original, so I'm assuming it's there for a similar purpose.

Someday I'll have to decide if I want to put more money into the IIIc I have or pick up another. I know the curtains are near death - they appear to be almost completely coated by liquid electric tape at this point - and the camera functions decently but it is pretty beat up and have some engraving.
I don't care about that as a user but when I think about putting $150-300 into the camera to replace the curtains and CLA it, working on a a beat up old camera seems somewhat silly. Decisions decisions.
