I just went through a roll with my newly acquired IIf. Lesson learned: the viewfinder is a little generous and I need to back off a bit to make sure stuff doesn't end up outside the frame.

However... half the roll was shot with an Industar-50, half with a Summar 50/2. Every single frame from the Industar had light streaks across it. Even the ones shot in open shade. It is not from the camera body; the light streaks were top-bottom in the prints whether they were vertical or horizontal. Even in shade, is this reasonable from a hoodless I-50?

The Summar shots, 11 out of 12 looked perfect. And I was blown away by how good this lens is at around 5.6 (guesstimating since it has the funky aperture markings on it).

What I'm wondering is, is the Industar defective or are they really this flare prone even without a light source in the image? The streaks look like light leaks, but with the Summar shots all-but-one having zero issues and every single Industar one having it, well...

I've not had real problems with my I-22s, one has a very rough front element which produces a halo-like glow around highlights, the other is fine.

My best guess is the valve around the collapsable tube is no longer light tight, or do you have a rigid version?

I have the collapsible one (was there a rigid I-50?). It's not regular flare, these things look like proper light leaks. Would the valve leaking cause straight lines across the negs?

It's possible. A tiny breach is all that's needed to let light in. The 'necks' of these collapsible Industars are lined in their bayonetting mounts with fine, soft, plush-like leather to keep the light out.

I-50 or I-22 don't normally flare unless the sun or some other bright light shines directly into it.

Heyyyy nice camera! :) Lets see some of those Summar shots. I have that lens but it's loaned out to a guy who may buy it. If it's a good lens I may take it away from him.

I think I have a couple I shot with mine before I loaned it out.

cm, here's one I shot with an old Summar and the IIf I sent you:

Now Micahel that's a nostalgic look....like out of the fifties.
You should post some more photographs you made with it only to see if it's the lens or the film

Thanks. :) I can see the 'three dimensional' quality people attribute to these lenses in the picture of my little girl. I'll enjoy this lens for a long time to come... probably will ship the Industar back to Yuri.
