Focusing problem

After a few rolls, I find that the focusing seems wrong in my GF670. It consistently focuses behind the subject. Perhaps it is not the RF but the lens which does not click into the correct position. I have an impression it is not perfectly parallel to the body. Anyway, I assume that lens should be quite sharp from f5.6 or f8 down.

Anyway, I sent the camera to Fujifilm in NJ to check it out; the good thing is that they seem friendly on the phone and promise a one week turnaround.

Has anybody else noticed anything of the sort?

So I am not a happy Fuji customer today. According to Fuji, the hinges are bent so that the lens does not get into correct position. They contend that this can only be caused by forcing the door closed on lens in incorrect position, and so refuse to apply the warranty.

I am very confused. Nobody else has used the camera. I was certainly careful to set the lens to infinity every time before closing. In fact, I was considering this quirk (together with inability to leave filters on) at length before buying it. You have to remove a large warning sticker before you can extend the lens. How could this have happened? Was the hinge defective before I bought it, or is it so delicate that I bent it without noticing the resistance?

They also said they have got about 6 of these cameras in with the same problem lately. Anybody else here with this damaged lens extension mechanism? If this camera is so fragile, I am concerned about its health in future.

Now they want $300 for the repair... there goes most of the price difference between a Fuji and CV branded camera. I like to think I would have had better experiences with Cosina's customer service. It would take longer though (photovillage would probably need to send it to Japan), but they would be friendlier, and it would be done at the factory, where I am sure they know how to get it right.

I have not noticed any problem with the lens extension mechanism yet - after maybe six or seven films through. My camera came with a vertical misalignment, which I got fixed here locally with a nice guy who helped me out. Other than that, everything seems fine at the moment. Fuji CH does not even import the camera, so I'm pretty much on my own if something goes in the wrong direction.

The camera itself is wonderful. Perfect light meter, super silent shutter. Format can be swapped between 6x6 and 6x7. Very enjoying now. Get yours fixed and get over it. Sometimes bad things happen.

Sure you won't regret haing bought the GF. It is such a great camera. Nice shots.
