Foma 200 and 400

About the FP400:

E.I. 250 in Rollei Supergrain 1+9:

C.V. Bessa III 667 in 6x7cm roll film format.

The film has also a more extended Red sensitivity.

For pushing: Not the best film (FP400). Even the FP200 can do better. FP200 is an interesting film because it is a mixture of cubical and hexagonal Silver crystals. FP100 and FP400 have classical cubical Silver crystals only.

FP200 put on an electronic microscope.

For next month a new project about the new Retropan 320 soft. According the spec it must be the best Fomapan film for push processing.

Great info (and impressive images) Fotohuis! I have my second roll in the dryer as I type and I am really liking it.

Cheers - John

Well your development seems to be OK. And a suitable subject too for this Summer (or Winter at your place). :)

Here some more info:

And for the Foma chemicals:
http://www.fotohuisrovo.nl/documentatie/Developers%20FOMA%20-%20%20foreign%20films%207-2006.pdf

Fomadon P W37 is more or less ID11 compatibel. Fomadon Excel W27 Xtol compatibel and Fomadon R09 is Rodinal compatibel.

Microphen and LQN are together with Diafine the only developers for which you can reach (almost) iso 200 with FP200.

Beautiful work, Fotohuis and John. John, the second photo of yours captures the retro look of Fomapan 200 - nicely done!

These look great John. Is this set with the GF670 in your sig ?
So sharp and clean.

All are 35mm rolled straight from the can. Taken with a Zeiss Ikon ZM with the 50/1.5 Nokton. Glad you liked them. The film is sharp with a very nice grain. Looking forward to printing them.

Cheers - John

Thanks for the info. I think I will keep using the LQN, especially if it gives me box speed.

So far I shot Fomapan 400 in 135 but it's awhile ago and I don't recall what EI I used, or what ISO.

Recently I started shooting LF, with Fomapan 200 @EI100 and developing in Xtol 1+1, the standard Digital Truth development scheme.

For reference on the results that can get, the below (misfocused) pictures:

I had some issues regarding sharpness and focus and even pinholes on the old Anniversary Speed Graphic but there's a Pacemaker Speed Graphic with the Aero-Ektar mounted looking at me right now and all those troubles will be over soon...:D :D

Next set of test shots due to check in early next week:cool:

I'll be sticking with the Fomapan 200 for a while, I'm liking it a lot.

Great feel to your shots, Johann. Sharp focus not necessary. I'm normally a sharpness freak but sometimes...

Pretty excited about using this new film (for me anyways). What can I expect? The guy I got it off suggested a similar look to Kodak Plus-X. He also suggested a true speed of 320 for the 400.

Developers? I have Ilfosol 3, DDX, TMax, Rodinal and two Foma devlopers that I got with the film, Fomadon LQN and Fomadon LQR. Any suggestions?

BTW, for Sydneysiders I highly recommend you try http://blanconegro.com.au/store/ for some very keen pricing. The owner Chris is keeping wet printing alive and making available a wide range of Foma products. This is especially important now that Vanbar is no more.

Hey John, sorry to be materialistic, but thanks for the link to BlancoNegro - I didn't know about them- and they're about $30 - $40 a roll shipped cheaper than Vanbar for a 30M roll of Foma! That's not a trivial difference. Vanbar seem to want $20 for shipping in Australia versus $10.50 through BN, which is an outrageous difference! Don't need to be in Sydney to benefit from that kind of saving!

I'm actually an hour north on the Central Coast but work in the Sydney area with one location that was close to Vanbar so it was always convenient. Now it's gone, Blanco Negro is in the same area (Redfern). I like to spend my money locally if I can so happy to support them. Also a chance to try some well regarded Foma products.

Hi John,
I picked up a can of 400 last week, keen to get into it. Thanks for the tip.
I'm going to try developing in ID-11 1+1, I'll let you know how I go.
Central Coast is a nice area. My dad grew up at Wamberal, and we holidayed there as kids, beautiful beach.
