I've been looking at your recent K-5 pics with interest as I was thinking of getting a Pentax DSLR for the Pentax lenses I have, I'm not a real fan of adapters but are a necessary evil in my mind and the images do make me think of what a modern version of Kodachrome would look like and noticed some are SOOC, after using it for a while what are your thoughts on the Camera?Manly beach, Sydney, July 2025. #6042

It’s a very well-handling, solid little camera. I like its compact size and weatherproof build quality. Just keep in mind the K-5 an APS-C sensor which will crop the image circle of your full frame Pentax lenses. You’d need to look at a K-1 for full frame.I've been looking at your recent K-5 pics with interest as I was thinking of getting a Pentax DSLR for the Pentax lenses I have, I'm not a real fan of adapters but are a necessary evil in my mind and the images do make me think of what a modern version of Kodachrome would look like and noticed some are SOOC, after using it for a while what are your thoughts on the Camera?

I’ve only used the centre-spot AF, which can sometimes be fooled by branches and leaves in front of small birds. I’ve also had some difficulty locking focus on a moving kestrel in flight. For static subjects it’s good, usually no problem, usually fast and accurate. Occasionally the focus hunts at longer focal lengths. More modern AF systems with subject and eye detection will be a few generations ahead (the K-5 was released in 2010).
My K-5 was an impulse buy from a charity store and I’m delighted with it.
