FSU lenses 'bokeh' comparisson

I have some more shots to show the bokeh of FSU glass. These are not test, but my regular everyday photos.

FSU lenses usually have nice and smooth bokeh, since they were originally designed at Zeiss Ikon before the WWII. All the Jupiters, as well as I-26 / I-61.

And I agree, the summitar is gorgeous!

But I somehow don't like the FSU 50/3.5... it just doesn't seam pleasing to me... it looks like motion blur, or rotation blur...

Bokeh also depends on the distance you focus on, AND, the background itself.
Here's an example. First image, focused at about 6-8 m. Second: about 1.6m. Third: minimum focus distance (below 0.8m if i remember correctly). All shot with a Sonnar 1.5 (a Jupiter-3 copy ;) ) at f/2 or maybe f/2.8...

Pherdinand, you have great pictures, I most like #2 & #3. BTW you're right about the importance of the background.
Pyter Parker, I mean Spyderman ;) , I agree with you on the fact that FSU 3.5/50 lenses produce a "rotation blur" effect. Maybe it's a matter of optical formula (the Industar 50 is a Tessar, not a Sonnar). Anyway, I like it; in fact, it's the only thing of my Industar I like :)
Here an example of a J8 (1955) shot, aperture around 4, I guess.

Potentially a dumb question - is the J-9 rangefinder coupled? Looking for a portrait lens and this one could suit as an alternative to the VC 75...

Yes, but...

normally the Bessa wouldn't couple correctly with those fast FSU lenses. Bessa is built on Leica standard focal length 51.6mm, while FSu lenses are based on Contax standard focal length 52.3mm. It would cause misfocussed images close-up and wide open.

Thanks. At the price they are I think I'll buy one and try one - just stop down a little and I tend not to shoot close either (have DSLR for that work) so that's not an issue...

A recent test I did with a recently overhaled CL showed accurate focus with 3 out of 4 LTM lenses, at wide open, and ~ 1M, the I-22, I-61, J8. The I-50 was slightly off. All were at their widest possible openings.

I didn't test how far or how much I would have to stop down the I-50 which does close focus accurately on a Zorki 4K.

I have heard of the LTM/FSU mismatch theory for a long time, but I've never had a problem mounting FSU glass on my bessa r. Jocko did a pretty thorough evaluation here:

that seems to prove it's more a matter of lens and camera than of incompatible standards. I can't put my hands on it right now, but I've got a picture of my nephew around here somewhere that was shot with a Jupiter3 on a bessa R at 1.5 meters and f1.5 or maybe f2 and its focus is perfect.
