just curious if anyone shoots only jpeg b&w…i'd like to get a discussio going as to why you do so, how you go about doing it, favourite process/settings etc.

i have fallen for shooting only jpeg, no raw, but in colour with converting to b&w after if i like the image for b&w.

Hello,

I just got my X100S this morning! I set it for RAW+Jpeg B&W+yellow filter. Just in case I decide later that some images would be better in color. Who knows what I'll want to to do the images in say, ten years.. It is nice to have the option.. I wish the film bracketing could be limited to two films, but it seems to require three.

I'm a RAW shooter that converts to B&W on Lightroom and Iridient Developer, but not jpg/B&W.

I shoot raw only and lately I have been using the EVF set to BW.

This is fantastic. You can "see" the BW image in the VF. Since I'm shooting raw, the file is in color in Lightroom but selecting the whole import and hitting "V" makes a dirty conversion to BW that lets you go to work on a basic "negative" and you can apply adjustments of presets to your heart's content.

I really love this workflow and unless you have space constraints on your storage or power constraints on your computer, I would urge you to give it a try. There is not doubt that the fuji jpg's are really pretty good, but the raw gives you so much more power that it is worth the extra space and minimal time to process..IMHO :)

Ditto Tom. My standard view with xtrans and x100 is BW/green filter, and that is often the shortcut conversion I use in LR.

Keeping it Raw permits a different sort of second thought, though, since it comes up in color after 2 periods in BW (through the VF of the XE, and on the SD preview for days/weeks/months). Though as a rule I know when i want to shoot in color, and set the capture and XE VF accordingly.

I have shot more jpg with the x100 from time to time, but then my itch for total IQ domination in LR returns and I reset to Raw capture...

I've been running my X100s in B&W + Red JPEG, but with RAW also for archiving. I've been doing all the post with the JPEGs and haven't even looked at the RAW. I don't know if I'll stick with it, too soon to tell.

I have tried it, but unfortunately I've been spoiled by the ole' 5d classics b&w jpeg output. The fuji's black and white jpegs are good, but they don't come close to matching the 5ds jpegs.

I've been shooting yellow filter BW JPEGs with NR-2, Htone+2, Stone+2, Sharpness +1, but with RAW simultaneously. I'm working on a publication wanted to have a quick and dirty means of seeing high contrast black and white images since I want to print monochrome. It's good, and I'd be happy to use some of the JPEGs, but as good as fuji JPEGs are the RAW files really do look significantly better, especially at high ISO.

There is a Youtube somewhere of a guy that set his x-pro up with 5 B&W I think and a RAW setting. I tried it and really liked it. I have to go back and find it becasue at last firmware update you lose your setting. You might try to find it, I found it pretty cool. I have sikver efex, etc. but really liked having my camera set up the way he did it.
