fuji users…ideal 3 lens kit?

as fuji USERS...i'm curious as to what your ideal 3 lens kit would be?
and why?

i am always thinking about what would be my best kit…18 or 14 or wait for a 16…coupled with the 23? or the 35? and then the 56 or the 60?
should zooms be a part of it or stay with primes?
i have 2 zooms that i really liked but am not so enamoured with now…

my 3some would have to focus on street shooting as that is my passion/obsession…what's yours?

or would a 2 lens kit be even better?
maybe a discussion for another time...

I'm keeping an 18 and 35 kit, not needing anything more at the time.

Sounds crazy but I have the 35 and the 27. Why? because of size. That 27 will fit in a coat pocket. Maybe the 14 down the road.

For me at current it is the 14mm, 23mm, and 56mm. When this wide high speed prime comes out, I'm sure that will replace the 14mm. No zooms here 🙂

I'm aiming for the 14-23-56 trio.
But looking at Fuji's XF line up, I'd say there are basically three choices:

1) 14-23-56
for when lens speed trumps size/cost

2) 18-35-60
for when lighter weight and lower cost are valued above all else

3) two zooms and one fast lens.
for when full focal range coverage is favored

Some of the obvious combos
- speed - 23/35/56
- Classic - 18 or 23 w/ 35 and 56

For me if I had to be down to 3 prime lenses
- 14/27/60 or 14/35/60 but I would never limit myself to 3 lenses, so I have 14/27/35/60 and the 18-55 zoom
If one was could be a zoom, then
- 14 and 35 plus zoom of your choice
If it is the new xt1, the zoom would be the new 18-135.. Because it is weather proof.

New to the Fuji, not photography....

I have the 18 and 35 as my 1st 2 lenses that I bought with the X-E2...

That 2 lens combo is very versatile at the moment, since I like Street Photography, but also family stuff, and some urban/rural landscapes.

So the 18 and 35 make a good team.

If I where to add one lens........
the 14mm would be nice.... giving a fov set for 21/28/50
Yes, that would be a nice 3 lens kit.
Not really into zooms at the moment.

Well, I just bought the 14mm and the 23mm. When the 56 is available,i'll buy that. I'll be selling my 18mm and my 18-55 zoom. I'll be keeping my 35mm so I'll have a 14-23-35-56 combo with my xpro-1 and will buy the xt-1 very soon.

Not taking image quality/performance into account as I have not tried all all of Fuji's lenses, I'd probably go with one of these setups:

10-24 / 35 / 56

or

14 / 27 / 56

if i could afford it (now) i would go for the 56 even though it is so close to the 60…i'd keep the 23…the more i use that lens the more i like it.
if buying today, i would get the 14 again but really, i'd prefer (and am hoping for) a 16.
while i like the idea of smaller lenses like the 18 and the 27, even the 35…i really like the size/feel of the 14 and 23 and am assuming the 56 would be of a similar feel.

An 18, 27, and 56 would get the job done for me... if I could only pick three.

I have every prime in hand or on order except for the 60. I like the 18 and 27 when I'm out and about with no particular project in mind. Carrying both of those is easy and people seem to ignore me when they're on the X-Pro 1. I use the 14, 23, 35 and 56 (soon I hope) when I have a specific project in mind. I could see carrying the 23 and 56 for planned street work.

I prefer not to use zoom lenses except for gigs where I have no choice. The 10-20/4 will be useful because most of the time on gigs I just can't place the camera where I need it to be.

For me it's 18/23/35 because I really enjoy(ed) the 28/35/50 setup I had on my rangefinder kit previously. I also have recently acquired the 14mm but that's pretty much for specific applications.

I usually go with a 2 lens or 1 lens kit though. 18/35 or 23 by itself.

My kit consists of a 18mm (I would prefer a 14), a 35mm and a Canon FD 50mm. I would rather replace the 50mm by a longer lens, 75mm up to 90mm. I might get the voigtlander 75mm ltm or 90mm and i would have my ideal kit.

I'm kinda on kshapero's wave length. 40mm FL is, for me, the best 'all-rounder' focal length, so the Fuji 27/2.8 serves as a great carry-around compact lens. For the extra speed needed in low light or for creating that 'bokeh' kind of image, the 35/1.4 suffices. The one other lens I have is the 18-55, which does not give up image quality to the 27 or 35 and makes a nice lens for family outings.

Now, is this the 'ideal' kit? No. Because? Well, because it doesn't rid me of G.A.S.. Is there ANY kit that can do that? Probably not. That's why I'm dreaming of the 56/1.2 and a possible 16/2. 🙂

Theres so many ways one could configure a 3 lens kit. Personally, I'd prefer a 6 lens kit because I like to do different things and Fuji's my only system.

18mm - wide street photography whether really close to my subjects on a crowded sidewalk in the city. Or when I want to capture a bigger artsy scene, such as a single person walking through a big open space filled with great light and shadows, maybe with some interesting architecture.

23mm - traditional (35mm) street photography and makes a great event lens. Would be my main walkaround lens.

56mm - street portraits such as those 100 strangers projects. A great 1.2 portrait lens to blur the background would be fun on the street imo. Doubles as a studio portrait lens and for those bokeh fanatics. Plus it would be nice for taking pictures indoors of my baby nephew and pets.

10-24 - traditional scapes and architecture lens. Also fun for creative perspectives where an UWA usually isn't used.

18-55 - for more scapes and architecture.

55-250 - and even more scapes and architecture + abstract close ups of random subjects. When I was a Canon user, I would go out with only my 40D w/ the 300mm F4 mounted and use that as a walk around in the city. 😀

I hate to leave out the 35mm. It's a such a great lens.

As much as I'd like this 6 lens kit, theres nothing like going out with only one lens and making the best of it. For me at least, the lens dictates how I see.

I guess if I had to pick 3 lenses I'd go for:
18, 23, 56 ... because I'm focusing on street stuff now

If I had to pick two:
23, 56

If I had to pick one:
23 ... picking only one was the easiest for me. That's the whole reason why I went with Fuji. So I could use a 24mm film lens on the X-PRO1. But it looks like the Fuji XF system will be my only system and I'd like to get that 6+ lens kit to fit all my wants. I wish that 23mm had been released when I got the X-PRO1!

Although they're the only three I have. As soon as I can afford the 23mm 1.4 I'll be with agphotography with my ideal set up of the old fashioned 28, 35 and 50mm.

I find my meagre mind is too easily confused by such choice 🙂 Though choice is the greatest freedom.
