Fuji X-pro or Sony A7c: which one?

Well, the 45mm focal length will be unique for me... even if it's only 5-7mm less than my usual favorite. I really like 45-58mm lenses a lot. I haven't had a 45mm since the Sigma DP2 Merrill.

John, I like the FP because of its size, although I did have to add the smaller FP grip just to have something to hold onto. Not having a VF is not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't mind it at all, and in a way it makes the camera less threatening to people when you hold it away from your body like a phone. I've become used to this anyway from using the Merrills and GR.

Image-wise it's plenty good enough at 24mp. The I lenses are superb, all 4 of them. I love how Sigma is making high quality, compact, small aperture, AF lenses. The L Mount is the most modern AF mount and is the least compromised by legacy. The FP menu system isn't too onerous either.

24-25mm fov is my favourite so the 24/3.5 gets the most use. What you have to accept though these days is software distortion correction. These new fangled lenses aren't like the jewel-like optical marvels of old.

...24 f3.5 is a very familiar idea for rangefinder users. That's why I love mine. It's stuck to my FP at the moment.

Hi Pyeh!

Firstly, thank you for responding to my post where I asked you about the Sigma 24mm f3.5 DG DN "Contemporary" lens.

Since then I bought the 24mm f3.5 lens in E-mount for use on my Sony A7III “camera”.

I’ve been out for the last 2 days shooting with it and I’m thoroughly delighted with it. Money well spent.

I just thought I’d share that with you.

All the best,
Mike

Thanks for the share, YM! I feel like I'm proselytising for Sigma at the moment, but I really admire the things they try and do, being different from the crowd, even if not always succeeding.

Yeah, I don't stress that... as long as I can accomplish what I want to with my photography. I like the fp, but unfortunately, it isn't sold here in Chile and I haven't been back to the US since Oct 2019 (birth of my son plus Covid). The A7c is available here, so... but like you, I admire Sigma for making interesting products.

A pretty cool Sigma blog post about all 4 of the lenses in this series...

https://blog.sigmaphoto.com/2021/pairing-sigma-i-series-lenses-with-compact-mirrorless-cameras/

G Series 24mm 2.8, 40mm 2.5, and 50mm 2.5

I am very glad these are coming out. I will get at least the 40mm, maybe the 24mm too if the 24GM is too big for me. I think these were in response to the Nikkor pancake lenses that still haven't been released. Sony has done a great job pushing their lineup.

Sony keeps making things interesting...

Sony G Series 24mm 2.8, 40mm 2.5, and 50mm 2.5... all small and with aperture rings.

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/size-comparison-between-the-new-sony-g-compact-lenses/

So smart and market oriented! A7C was FF EVF record for its size and functionalities. And with those compact primes Sony keeps its smart&small momentum.

Canon are such bunch of stubborn morons with their huge RF mount lenses and total ignorance on compact primes. They won't even release 40 2.8 EF in RF mount. :bang:
