Fujifilm X-Pro1 details leaked!!!

I think Chris just makes some interesting and valid comparisons and questions the price ... something we should all be doing a little more often IMO.

It balances out the starry eyed "Thanks so much Fuji I gotta have one of these!" posts! :p

Good post.
Fuji will get away with these prices because some folks are willing to pay without batting an eye. We already saw what happened to the X100 price.

I feel exactly the same Tim. I was thinking of the Ricoh after the Nex7/5n didn't meet my requirements. If the Fuji reviews are good I may liquidate some of my Leica assets!
Pete

True. At the same time I've had enough money to buy a decent digital camera for years but haven't because I want:

- reasonably compact - Leica M size is good enough, 5D is too big
- has a fast 21-28mm equivalent lens, f/2 or faster
- has a 50mm f/1.4 equivalent

As far as I know, this is the first one that meets those requirements. Sure, the M9 fits the bill, and I've already got the 28 and 50 mm lenses for it, but it's too expensive for me and has too many issues for me as well, particularly at that price.

I find this camera appealing. $2k is a lot of cash though. I'll wait at least until it's officially announced :)

What did we see? That it depreciated like every other digital camera on the market?

Maybe the reference was to all the speculation as to what the price would eventually be but in the end, although it finished on the high side IMO, it made little difference to demand.

Primo. How did it depreciate when it is still available at MSRP?

Second. Fuji reps stated $1000 launch price at the time of introduction. Then, the price went up after a lot of hype. And they got away with it. And they still are getting away with it to this day by selling at MSRP!

Don't forget, it wasn't officially introduced until February of last year. The first announcement was a 'development' announcement, in Sept 10 with no price. Fuji reps never stated $1000 launch price.

After nearly a year, it appears they picked a fair price. I suspect they'll do the same with the Xpro.

And it's only been widely available for half that time, thanks to the earthquake/tsunami.

Can't really blame anyone for continuing to sell at MSRP - if the demand is there, what are they supposed to do?

Huh? They never stated a firm price... they said around $1000. It depreciated on the used market. AND it actually has come down $100 on the new market... in some US stores. I love the camera, but many think it has come down a lot when it hasn't.

My mind is trying to apply the same logic to Leica and the M9 ... and I have to say it's not working for me! LOL

Anyone looked at the exchange rate lately? The dollar is pitiful for reasons mentioned above. Kinda amazed anything from Japan is halfway reasonable, all things considered...

Just got a chance to look at the photos of the kit... I like the styling but no DOF markings or distance scale on the lenses? I thought we already have the Conrax G for that silliness :p

Have to admit, looking at the latest images, it looks like a very promising camera. The viewfinder I guess has two magnification levels, one for wide angle (?) and one for the other two stock lenses. I'm assuming the frame lines are virtual (projected on the lcd overlay). But the 2 magnifications makes sense to me and allays fears of a Contax G zooming viewfinder. Could be really nice, and I'd rather look at the actual light from an image and not even a good OLED reproduction...

The statement of a M mount adapter is reassuring too, which means Fuji thought about that and at least allows one to change the viewfinder magnification (and I'm assuming framelines) manually. How will you focus with manual lenses, however? Will there be some kind of confirmation?

Lots of questions, but I'm eager to know the answers.

Comig from Contax G2, Leica M8 and Fuji X100, I have to admit I am really attracted to what X-pro1 promises on paper. Close exam of the leaked details on hybrid VF, particularly the optical VF magnification, makes me wonder if the VF is really that useful for manual focusing. I give up M8 due to aging eyesight even with 1.25X eyepiece. X100 VF for framing only, manual focusing by-wire on X100 is a joke. I will have wait and see how Fuji implement manual focus on the lenses and how good is the hybrid VF.

My guess is that adapted lenses will use the EVF. The method of focus assist will be important; surely they have seen Ricoh and Sony implement focus peaking. I suppose you could also pre-focus by your favorite method and frame using the optical VF.

+1 for a 21

+1 for a 21

I wouldn't really be tempted to use M lenses on it either, since the system lens are the right focal lengths and speeds for me, at least for the wide and normal. I'd probably skip the 60mm and use one of my M 50's or the 75 as a telephoto. Of course, it'd be great if they had a 21/4.5 equivalent :)

I too expect that the native system lenses will do everything I need in their respective focal lengths, and would definitely like a wider option than 28. Depending on variables like the VF and corner performance, my ZM 18 is first candidate for the moderate wide end. My experience with the CV 15 on digital was not happy, so this is a place where it would be really cool to see Fuji come through.

Actually, I think I would prefer a 24 equivalent, but since Fuji has decided upon a 28, there is little chance of that, at least at the beginning.

I find the focal lengths offered a little difficult. (18mm) 27mm corrected and (35mm) 52mm corrected for crop are outside a lot of people's comfort zones.

This camera will need a true 35mm eventually IMO.

Yeah. The X100 price dropped dramatically. In the beginning it cost 999 EUR at the shops. Now it's 997 EUR. :D And for the used prices I don't see a bigger difference between new and used compared to any other consumer camera.

Not to knock the need some will feel for a 35, but since when has 28-50 become "outside the comfort zone"? Winogrand and HCB must have loved being uncomfortable...

More just my own feelings maybe ... but I'm sure shared by at least a few others.

I find 28mm hard to use for some reason ... I've had lenses and sold them and even got rid of a very nice film point and shoot because I couldn't make friends with it's 28mm lens.
