Fujifilm X-Pro3 Thoughts?

Most of the time I use a 23mm or an 35mm on my Fujifilm. I wouldn't see myself using the OVF with my 90mm anyways.

I wasn't alking about a 90mm. Even the 56 is unusable on the XP2's OVF because of the very narrow framelines and the OVF blocking, but at least I could use the 14mm and 16mm lenses. I had hopes for a range that would accommodate the fujicrons and the 16mm 2.8, but that is not the case with this single magnification viewfinder. I will check in the store when the XP3 reaches the shelves, but so far it is a no-go for me! Pity.
 
An unrelated question:

In the optical viewfinder mode there is the white square "estimated" focus point and Fuji allows you to enable display of the actual focus point, which appears as a green square. As you get closer to your subject, and parallax becomes greater, the white and green squares diverge. Does anyone use this feature?

This was too much clutter for me, so I never enabled that feature. I thought that if I ever got so close where that precision mattered, I'd just switch to electronic viewing through the lens.

It's a shame that when the (green square) actual focus point is enabled, the white one doesn't go away.

It is not totally dysfunctional... there is a screen you can still use.

Yes, I use it. I like it. I like seeing where maximum distant and near focus points are located within the finder.

It’s necessary to know where the autofocus landed. Without the close and infinity estimators you would have no idea. It’s actually a genius solution and and not at all distracting when you get used to it .

Just mostly dysfunctional. It's very telling that away from the fan boys, there is a HUGE amount of dissatisfaction over the X Pro 3. The comment sections for the various posts at DPR's news feed are very much against the stupid design of this camera. It is easy to see that this is not going down well. At all.

Yeah, people do not like things that move away from the norm. It causes them stress and discomfort even though they aren’t going to buy it.

As I read it, many if not most people are ready to upgrade from their X Pro 2 to the new 3. However, this asinine design from Fujifilm ruins that plan and now they have no upgrade path. Those saying just go to the XT-3 completely miss the point. That's not an option for folks who have enjoyed a rangefinder type camera for the past near 10 years. This is an epic fail from Fujifilm.
 
Well Ted, I honestly wouldn’t have expected anything but negativity from you. That aside, I do see the comments, but how many were really going to buy anyway? Dpreview is a gear head site that focuses on pure specs at the expensive of anything else. This is not a mainstream camera and that’s a mainstream camera site. I’m frankly shocked at how many people rely on a screen. I’ll admit, I’ve underestimated the demand. That said, the X-Pro2 is still very nice compared to this so people should be happy they don’t need to upgrade. Instead they go crazy that they can’t buy something new.

I’m not sure how a camera that isn’t even out can be an epic fail. And I guess I’m a stupid hipster because I like the camera and I don’t rely on my LCD a lot.
 
One last gripe: the X-Pro2 had the nicer top plate design.

The X Pro 3 should have been addressing the same market as the X Pro 2 did. That it did not is the exact reason why there is such a huge uproar of disappointment. It's pretty easy to see. I would be hugely upset if I were in the market for such a camera. My X100 fulfills my need for a digital camera and is very similar to the X Pro cameras. If Fujifilm is so stupid that they bring that asinine LCD design to the X100 type cameras, then my chances of upgrading drop to zero.


Taking away a fully functioning LCD and replacing it with a crippled one is a ridiculous design.


Especially since you can simply turn off an X Pro 2's LCD and remove it all together. Real simple. Problem solved for those who don't want an LCD.


The vast majority, repeat VAST, use the LCD as an advantage of digital photography. The idiotic screen of the X Pro 3 removes that advantage for no benefit.

LOL! iCal'ed. We'll revisit this at the end of this time frame. I predict not a single maker will follow Fujifilm down this sewer.
