To the point... I assume this will replace the X-S1 which was always a bit out of place in the X lineup.

I doubt it. Isn't the X-S1 a super zoom bridge camera? It fits a different brief than the X-T1 I would have thought.

From Fujis insiders, this camera sits in between the xe1 and the xp1. Its not a replacement for anything, its an addition to the line.

I'm thinking how about an xe2 + an x-t1 : one lens each (wide + medium tele).
One could be the back up of the other for important tasks (or long distance journeys).
Or for daily use one could choice the more appropriate depending on the planned activitiy.
A little like to have a RF + a srl with the plus in this case to share the same lenses. Just an idea...which could be wrong!

I can share my strategy 🙂
xpro1 for wide primes (14 and/or 18), for zone focused, fast and fluid street shooting. I need a proper windowfinder for that, no mirror black out, no blocking shadows and lag, seeing outside the frame. Only using EVF momentarily for checking accuracy of framing, if needs be, although with the improved framelines this is hardly needed anymore.
xe2 or xt1 for longer lenses. OVFs dont work well for longer lenses or zooms, I need a good EVF plus faster (than xpro) autofocus with PDAF.
x100s is my normal lens. Also the take everywhere camera because of size and silent shutter, and the first choice for flash photography, if the focal length suits.
In real life? the x100s still does 90% of my shooting 😛

X-T1 seems to a bit too small (even smaller than X-E1)
On the other hand X-T1 will have a battery grip option that would probably dramatically improve grip and handling overall.

For $1800, unfortunately it would take a FF sensor to make me happy. Nice design though, definitely surpasses what Nikon came up with on the DF.

The X100 covers most of my needs and wants.
The Nikon D5100+lenses covers the rest (it's really the lenses).
The XE1/2 has been on my mind for a long while - elegant and versatile.
Now this XT1 design layout is so nice also.
Too many choices for me.

$1800 was just one source (that never even mentioned a dollar price, actually).
A couple of other sources say $1300, which would also fit the 'priced in between XE and X-Pro' rumor.

The 1800 is supposed to be the kit price of the xt1 w/ new 18-135 weather proofed zoom according to the Fuji rumor site.
Anyway less then a week and we will all know the real truth.

So... the previous X APS-C cameras are criticized for not having a competitive EVF.
Let's assume the T1 has an EVF that performs at least as well those considered to be the best. By performs I mean doesn't get in the way of making the photographs you want to make. More space is needed for an improved EVF. The hump (more space) and an excellent EVF go together. The fact that the extra space is shaped like a pentaprism is a design choice. If a pentaprism shape is pretentious or misleading, what shape would its critics prefer? Should the body be larger... or taller? If so very different criticism would be written. Fujifilm is going down the same road as Canon and Nikon, etc, etc.
If the T1's EVF is not as good or better than other brands', then the pentaprism is gratuitous. The extra space would be wasted. The critics would be on target.
The hump issue will be resolved within a month based on the performance of the EVF.
