Not again... In fact, it's been about a year since my last lens purchase.

But now... my dream came true. You guys should know what I mean: the holy grail of fast glass. It'll come on Wednesday... The nice folks at KEH said it'd be shipped today.

BTW, it's not a Noctilux! 🙂 In fact, I've been asking about that kind recently and Alkis was nice enough to post a picture of a camera with that particular lens.

You know what it is? 😉

Sorry... I'm still very happy, and will be happier on Wednesday! 😀

35 lux asph eh? I recently purchased a 35 'cron asph and it's really sweet, congrats.

Yup! Not an impulse buy, BTW, I've been saving for that lens for over a year, thinking about it as my gift to self by the time I turn 50. But right now I'm sick, lungs wheezing, coughing and generally miserable, so I thought "I got some funds, why not get SOME lens?"

Et voilá!

Now... I may get the 'lux 50 in the future. However, since I'm a wide-guy (in more than one sense), I'll think of my next purchase as a 'cron 28 (which will replace my Elmarit 28).

Thanks a lot! You guys are great! 🙂 More on Wednesday! 😉

You will be very very happy with your new lens. I have one and its just great. The chrome is beautiful, and the brass mount has a special feel. Some don't like the extra weight compared to the alloy black but it balances well on the camera and adds some steadiness with slower shutter speeds, which with a 'low-light' lens can be an advantage.

The couple suggestions I can add are: Look into a 2.8/28 hood 12547, its the same hood that the original 1st version Aspherical 35 Summilux used and is a clip-on hood like the older Leica lenses used. Goes on and off easy and has a better designed also clip-on hard front cap that stays in place ( the soft rubber ASPH front hood cap seems to come off too easy ), and the tightening ring for the ASPH hood has the same grove design as the aperture ring which sometimes can be turned unknowingly. Also, the ASPH Summilux is known to have a 'loose, smooth, or just too easy to move' depending on how you feel about its design, aperture ring. Myself and other have found that sometimes it moves without you noticing [that is till after you've made and missed your proper exposure]. I sent my Summilux into Don at DAG and he adjusted it to be a bit tighter, also he smoothed out the focus which can be ( another common 'thing' from the factory ) a bit sticky when you stop-start in the closer focus range and wasn't getting better with use. Now its perfect.

As for the 50 ASPH being better... maybe in the closer range and maybe in the corners at f1.4, but in 'normal' photography I really doubt you'd see it. Not sure you can really compare a 35 to a 50 anyway as the design for a fast 35 is so much more challenging, a fast wide/normal 35 is a special lens to have.

So congratulations!

Congratulations Francisco!!!

Glad to have been of help with your GAS 😀 😀 😀

The Lux 35 Asph. is quite simply the closest you can get to a universal lens for a rangefinder. The optical signature is delectable. It's great for street photography and perfect for available light. And chrome is indeed better than black (the Lux 35 Asph is these days my only chrome lens and it feels both more solid and sturdy than my black lenses). It is a fantastic lens, you will be head over heels in love with it, I am sure. 🙂

Best,

The 35 Lux is...

The 35 Lux is...

AMAZING! Its a great lens. I owned it and the 35 cron for a coupe of weeks. I liked BOTH for their different qualities but the Lux gave me some creamy smooth NICE shots while the cron was more hard, clinical.

Enjoy it man! It's a GREAT..no...AMAZING lens. Still, I agree the best lens ever is the 50 ASPH, but the 35 is right behind it. I think you will love it. When you get it, and shoot it, post some shots!

It's only a few hours away... According to the UPS site, it's coming tomorrow, Wednesday! 😉

Thanks for the reassurance, guys. This lens has been the most expensive photographic purchase I've made, but then, what are dreams for if you can't try to make them come true?

I intend to keep the Hexanon. We've bonded. Focusing with it is almost second nature for me... and I like the focal length a lot!

BTW, about the "Holy Grail" expression... it's just a personal view. To me, this lens is the Holy Grail when it comes to fast wides. Now... I'm aware of the Nokton 35/f1.2, but its heft just deterred me from looking for one.

Besides, I have a soft spot for silver chrome casings! 🙂

I dunno - they look like pretty regular European camera store prices to me. €399 for a decent 90mm Tele-Elmarit for example. European prices are always higher you have to look hard for bargains.
