Dorchester and South Boston are interesting if you want to see something most visitors don't get to see.

Back Bay especially Newbury St., the John Hancock building (get around to the thin side of the building and walk until it is simply a sliver of glass sticking up into the air - Copley Square is a good place for this), Beacon Hill (bring a wide angle), Boston Common and the Public Gardens, the River Charles from MIT, the USS Constitution in Charlestown Harbor, Harvard Square, to name but a few...

ROckport and Gloucester are home to me and have variable street atmosphere this time of year. Newburyport is also nice. But if you are sticking around town, then I think that southy is good for pubs, Harvard for any type of activism, and historic regions for tourists.

Haymarket.

The North End is nice, too.
Fenway Park - but you'd better pull for the Sox while you're here. We need all of the help we can get. Do you have a strong arm? Are you a leftie?

TLC ... you are going to place near and dear to my heart
During the day Newbury St has many street musicians, miscalleneous but interesting looking people hanging around Newbury comics or Gold Nuggets
at night Landsdown st. next to Fenway Park is a bivy of college activity. Though if you walk down commonwealth ave to Alston there is a steady bar life that is packed especially on thursday nights.
The Financial District (City hall area) will have the best city scapes however bolyston st is where the Prudential and the baby Pru are located.
The North End is great for its atmosphere, people and great food.
The Common is always scenic and full of interesting characters
If I were back at school with the interest in photography I have now... I would have taken the majority of my pictures on BU's campus (Boston University) ... its right on Comm ave stretching from Brighton ave to Kenmore square and everday you have 30,000 students walking up and down getting where they need to go.
I could go on but you can always PM me for more detailed info
