I got really luck. I've been on the hunt for an X100 for a while. Happened to be in Singapore and called a store -- the exact same moment that the Fuji delivery man was standing there. Sheer luck. A frantic cab ride later, I'm now the owner of an X100. I still can't quite believe it.

I paid approximately $1300. This one won't be ending up on eBay, that's for sure.

First impressions: this is definitely version 1.0. I've noticed the same things others have: the dial at the back is awkward. It works, but it's poorly designed. The battery moves around in the battery charger. The macro mode is a terrible, terrible, terrible idea. It gets in the way, big time. I suspect all these things will change in the next version and early adopters will pay the price in terms of resale value.

The menu system seems fine to me, though I know others have complained. The build quality is great, as many have mentioned. The OVF is indeed bright and a joy to use. EVF isn't bad -- but it's not my thing. It's also much lighter than I thought. I've owned an M8 until recently and it's much lighter than that. Feels 'hollow' if you know what I mean -- missing the heft. But I'm not complaining mind you -- it's a joy to walk around with. I prefer lighter to heavier any day.

Anyway, I'm going to start putting it through its paces later today. Will report back with pictures. Here's hoping I don't find any major flaws. I've been spared the tilted OVF framelines which was my only real concern given that the warranty may be an issue (I think the warranty is worldwide, but the salesperson said its 'local').

I hope others get lucky too!

Well done and certainly a stroke of luck. For anyone interested in the X100 in the UK I heard, although it was a couple of days ago now, that Jacobs in Manchester had one in. Might be worth a call.

Congrats on getting one! Hopefully things are still on track for the US stores to get them next week.

Out of curiosity, what serial # did you get?

Afraid I didn't get too many chances to take pictures this evening as I got home late. But here are two, with minor tweaks. I'll post more as I can. I'm not one to post pictures of cats or walls so it might be a while before I get something halfway interesting!

A few more observations: damn, the low light performance is great. The camera is a joy to carry. The battery life isn't great, that's for sure. The write time really sucks with JPG+RAW, but shouldn't be too bad on RAW only once Aperture supports it. I'm going to use a higher speed card tomorrow.

The lens cover is nicely made, but awkward to deal with it at times. I haven't found the battery compartment to be flimsy as some have. I really need a Thumbs Up for this thing -- it will make a huge difference.

I wish the on/off switch were a little more substantial, like an M8. It can be hard to find when in a hurry. It really ought to be less tacky shiny metal and in the same alloy as the other controls -- I think that is a major flaw in terms of aesthetics.

Lots of small tweaks would help, e.g. I'd like an option to have an image preview only on the LCD. Presently you have to choose to have one both in the VF and the LCD or in neither, which blows.

More soon.
