Hi all,
I just got my Leica IIIB repaired. The cost is not as much as I thought. My Leica IIIB is having S/N 282702. I checked it from a collector's book and found that it was made in 1938. Hever is the camera :

I am still haing a wind strom in my living place. I can't wait to take it out for hunting in this weekend.

I just wondering, how 'rare' is a Leica IIIB. I checked from a book, the product amount of IIIB is large (more than IIID), why it is 'rare'?

Leica IIIB *not really rare* but HARD to find in pristine condition.......

The IIIB was a very popular camera in the late 1930`s alongside it`s older sister the IIIA and many were used very hard, thus not many have survived in fine condition

The Leica IIID that`s a whole nother story and whole nother camera, rare because only 427 were made from 1940 to 1946, "wartime" Leica IIIC with self timer, many were lost or destroyed during and after the war
(I`m sure many of the US Army issued one`s didn`t survive)
IIID`s are highly prized collectors items now in the $3,000+ price range
