I started to think along the lines of maybe parting with the M6 and going for an R3/R4 combo. I am shooting wider most of the time. Two reasons for the R3 rather than the R2. It gives the option of 40 framelines which you wouldn't have otherwise. (I wanted them for the 43 Pentax). It also has the greater mag finder for the longer lenses and the option of shooting both eyes open which I miss from the Canon VI-L

i thought about the r3 and the 1:1 vf, but i wear glasses and shoot left eyed so the 2 eyes open thing doesn't really work for me.
the cle is in need of repair and will be sent out in the new year.
the zi works fine with the zi.
the r4m is sitting mostly unused at the moment and that's a big part of my thinking that another/different camera might be more useful.
no decisions yet...

As I understand it the Cosina factory works on batches of cameras all coming along the same production line and all using more or less the same parts. Monday and Tuesday they are making R3A's, then they change to R4A's on Wednesday and so on.
Moe should be able to answer this better than myself.

I love the Aperture priority in my FE2, so that's what I like to see. The Bessa R is still my favorite RF body.
BTW- We've got snow coming down here today, thought of you ~ ; - )

I have solved the issue differently: got the R4A for the 21,25 and 28mm the ZI for the 35 and 50mm and the R3A for the 50.75,90mm.
Subsequently, I've noticed problems with the RF precision of the R3A on the 90mm lens, and also, since I wear glasses, the 50mm frames are a bit too tight, so The R3A has become the 75mm camera, and I got an M7 (0.85) for the 50mm. When I need to shoot a 90mm on a RF (something I try to avoid), I put it on the ZI+1.35x magnifier, and it works ok.

Film is the other way
Joe.. I traded an M4-P for cash.. then plunked down the balance of the $$ for a couple of CV's, one from the HB's recycle bin. R3A in grey, R4A in black. Like Tom A notes its a good working combo.
For Tom A... "moved from Sweden because I don't like snow". You know Tom, Kama works like this. Now I know, I'm telling my wifes family in 'Van' you brought the snow not "La Nina"

I'm a big fan of the two VF method Joe. One for the wides and one for the normal and up (nothing longer than 50 right now for me, but a 75/2.5 perhaps one day) Simplifies everything when out shooting.
Sounds like we're getting hammered with snow tomorrow all day!

OK, silly devil's advocate.
Just sell the body and not replace it?????

Now Tom, I know you know that it's not really global warming, it's global climate change. Results will be unpredictable and seem counterintuitive to what most people think.Tom A said:I left Sweden bedause I hate snow! Where is global warming when we want it?
But as I say, I know that you know that

PS Joe: Just when you hint that the R4M may be up for sale, I'm spending on Christmas gifts. :bang:

Not to hijack the thread but who makes and who sells this magnifier for the ZI? I'm interested.
Thanks,

it's snowing here now and i never got to finish off my roll with the 75 yesterday. time for the big boots maybe.
i am throughly confused as to how to procede which maybe tells me that i should do nothing right now.
i could keep the r4m.
i could sell it and not get another body.
i could sell it and get another body.
i could sell it and get another lens, 40/1.4 single coat.
i could give it to earl...
i could take another cold pill.

Sell the camera and buy film and bus tickets.
It will do your photography more good than buying another camera.

How often do you use the ZI lenses? Now that you have a cv kit of wide lenses, why keep the ZI? Are they really that much better than the cv lenses you have? That would pay for a nice laptop I would think? Sell the R4m and get the R2a or R3a. Which ever you decide.

the zi and the zm 35 were a gift from some of the membership here and is a keeper. i love the 50 sonnar and the zm 25 so they are keepers also.
and as a hobbyist i really like having the 2 systems.
this is the perfect set up for me and i have felt more 'at peace' with my gear now than i ever have.
this r4m thing is a detail that needs to be addressed...

I have an R4A and have been having similar thoughts - I like the R4A for 21,25,28, and I like my M6 for 28,35,50 (and I have some useful overlap there too). But I find it hard to frame with my CV 75 on the M6. So I've been thinking about an R3A - with a 2-body CV kit I could use the R4A for 21,25,28,35 and an R3A for 50,75 (and also have an excuse to get a CV 40).
But I have recently got a 1.25x VF magnifier for the M6 and it looks like that makes a big difference for using a 75 - I just need to go out and try it. If it does the job well enough, I won't really have a good reason to get an R3A (but I'll have more money free for film).
