Found this blog. For those that don't know the game, here is the blurb from the blogger:

As you may or may not have heard, the video game Grand Theft Auto V, was released (September 17, 2013) after more than 5 years in the making. It went on to make $800 million in the first 24 hours of sales, and it was also the most expensive game ever made.

Being a big fan of GTA, I went to the midnight launch and played the night away. As I played, I noticed that the characters had cameras on their phones, which could be uploaded to Rockstar’s Social Club under my username, ArtCows, and from there, I could save them to my computer. With this new tool, and the huge world of Los Santos, I started experimenting with the camera and the digital streets.

What I found was remarkable. The game is so realistic that it felt like being in the streets outside, running around for shots, anticipating passersby’s movements and reactions. In a way, it was also incredibly frightening that these algorithms could look so real, or is it that we ourselves are becoming ever more algorithmic?

In this blog, I will share with you the street photographs that I will be taking through my characters in GTA V.

My son just got GTA 5 and I've been watching from a safe distance. The complexity of these games does my head in! 😀

First google street, now GTA. Very interesting.

I know nothing about GTA. Never played, don't care to play, could care less. But your photos are very interesting to me. And very challenging to my head and heart. I really don't know if this is good- engaging in such immersive environments in new and obtuse ways, finding unique uses for the small tricks embedded there, maybe even twisting the game play to make for good photos, not 'good gaming,' whatever that may mean.

Or bad- we are now completely entrapped in an artificial feedback loop while we let the 'real' world- environment, politics, social/civic, economic- collapse.

Well, enjoyable photos. Keep going with it!

Rockstar's brilliance lies in how fully they realize their parody of our culture in their simulation. Starting with the last title, this includes giving players abilities that allow them to interact with that parody world.

As a fellow game-maker, I'm very impressed - even when occasionally I am disturbed by their sensibilities.

think that's a bit harsh joe, looking at the recent posts in this forum the same thing could be said.
the Rangefinder Photography and General Discussion forum here are practically used interchangeably.

ok...this is posted in rangefinder photography discussion...what does it have to do with rangefinders?

The heyday of street photography matches up pretty well with the heyday of 35mm rangefinder photography. So 'street ~= rangefinder' photography in many ways?

If you look at the site, many of the images have a 35mm look, especially on the second page (earliest posts).

Well, just a thought. I don't have strong opinions on whether it stays or moves. Disappearing would be a shame, but that's not my call, either.
