Thanks for the link, Tony. If anyone is interested, Sean Reid also has a great review of the GR Digital on his website (http://www.reidreviews.com, subscription required). It may not be the GR1 replacement everyone dreamed about, but it sure seems like a worthy camera in its own right.

Nice to see that the GR-D is getting a bit of end-user traction, although this number is going to be way too quirky for most of the digicam crowd - "What, no zoom lens!?" (and even I wince at the lack of a built-in optical VF). Since I already own a first-gen GR1, the digital edition is only of academic interest, but it's good to see Ricoh make an effort, albeit a slightly off-the-wall one, to raise the relentlessly-average bar for compact digital.

I think it is a hideous Frankenstein's monster which should have been put to the torch long before it ever saw the inside of a distributor's warehouse. It is neither fish nor fowl, and is fit for nothing in particular, while being spectacularly expensive at the same time. It could have been so much more.
