Hardest camera/system/lens that you let go?

Regrets, I've had a few

Regrets, I've had a few

My first good camera was a Canon FX SLR. After decades, it came back into my posession. I spent too much money fixing it up, but it was still an overly delicate, unreliable (spotty flash synch) picture taker. So, I sold it. Still, I missed the feeling of it, so I backtracked and obtained a nice Canon 7s rangefinder to replace that 1960s Canon feeling. The 7s is so much nicer than the SLR! The Canon 50 1.4 in LTM is better than the 58mm f/1.2 in FL mount.

Zeiss Super Ikonta B. This introduced me to the breed. It showed me that medium format could be compact, and fast shooting. I got rid of it, but I regretted it. Since then, I've replaced it with a Super Ikonta BX, C, A, and an Agfa Super Isolette.

Leica Summicron 50 and 35 ASPH in M mount. They were mint, and coupled perfectly with my M7 RF. I decided to get the LTM equivalents which cost way more, focus to only 1m, but then the LTM models could be mounted on my Canon 7s. Now, when I spin on and off the LTM-M mount adapters, I often think that I would have been better off with the pure M lenses. However, I don't plan to get rid of the LTM versions, as they are hard to find.

Nikon 180 f/2.8 ED. Great lens, but bulky and it had no tripod mount. I hardly ever used it. Now, my son is into sports, and I could probably use it. I may have to get a 135 f/2 DC to compensate.

My feeling is that if I sell something, I end up buying far more to compensate for the feeling of loss.

Nikon F's - bought them, sold them, bought them again..... must be addiction

Hasselblad SWC - currently suffering seller's remorse. Looking hard for another one.

Stupidly, I sold all my rangefinder gear last year. This included:

Leica MP - mint, with gordy strap, softie, luigi case. sold it for ~2k (ARGH!)
Leica CL
bunch of Yashicas
Summicron-C
Elmar-C
Canon Sonnar 50/1.5
Canon 35/2
Ultron 28
Color Skopar 28
etc

Cant remember what else but it hurts to even think about it. Im now looking to buy a body and lens combo, most likely Bessa R3A+nokton 40.

The only lens I sold and bought back was the Voigtlander 35/1.4, the price/size/performance is just too good. But then I sold it again since I already have the 35/1.2II and ZM 35/2...

My C330 Pro F outfit about eight years ago. But I just bought a Paramender for $5, so I'm on my way to rebuilding the system. Just might take a while at this rate.

There are others along the way I wish I had kept instead of trading them in, but mostly for sentimental reasons.

Finally letting the D700 go was hard. i miss it at times, but it was the right decision, for me at least.

M7 and 50mm Summilux that my mom bought in Singapore for me. That was the worst decision I've made in my life.

Man, reading this thread makes me feel sad!

This is easy. Last year I sold my black MP3 as I got a very unexpected tax bill. I still feel like a village idiot, it's my fav Leica ever.

I'll own one again, someday, but I'll pay dearly for it sure.

Mamiya C330f with 80/105/180mm lenses-sold it for the money eight years ago-but this year I bought a Rolleiflex T-so I back with the TLR's...:)

I sold a Black G2 kit all lenses and case and gorgeous Mamiya 6 with 3 lenses. Wish I still had both sets. Can't remember now why I sold them. Am looking for a 6x6 option again so maybe I will buy Mam6 again.

My biggest regret was selling/trading a Mamiya 7 II with 50/65/80mm lenses. I recently bought the body, 43 and 80mm lenses... Won't make that mistake again.

I also really regret selling an M6 titanium kit with titanium 35 and 50 mm summilux pre-asphs. Not that I wanted to keep it, but had I held out another 8 months I could have made a lot more money!

The first was my Mamiya RB67 with 127 and 50 lenses. It was a lot to pack around, but it took some great photos. I used the money to buy a Nikon F2 and some lenses (I still have them) so it wasn't a total loss. Just last year I began thinning out my Canon gear. I traded my 16-35/2.8L for a Nikon film scanner and some cash. I really liked that lens, but it didn't get used much.

Last year my Hasselblad 500 C/M with 80/2.8 and two A12 backs, very good system but it got hardly used. This year my Nikon SLR kit (F3HP, FM, 24/2.8, 50/1.4, 105/2.5, 200/4) ... the FM was my first "serious" camera and I bought everything new, step-by-step, starting from about 30 years ago ... But also, it was hardly used in the last ten years and selling it helped me financing something entirely different so no regrets .... :)

As I sold my film Ms I'm now thinking of getting a cheap M mount camera, maybe a used VC Bessa, just to keep my hand in. What a waste of money selling them. One camera I really loved was an old Nikon F, my first serious bit of kit, if I could keep one that would be it. I started getting interested with a Zenith B, like many, and that's one I don't miss. It spent more time being fixed than my M9! Always remember the strong smell of the Russian leather case, not in a kinky way of course.

Over the years I have bought and sold all sorts of bits of Leica equipment but the one camera I really regret selling was a Ricoh GR1...

My black G2 set (21/45/90mm), no doubt. Let it go for an M6, which works better for me, but still. The G2 was/is unique and sparked my love for careful film photography with high-level optics.

Did that include a Yashica Electro 35? Now that one I would not have sold... it's not worth that much in the first place, but it's a great camera to have as a backup or for all occasions... I won't part with mine.
