Regrets, I've had a few
Regrets, I've had a few
My first good camera was a Canon FX SLR. After decades, it came back into my posession. I spent too much money fixing it up, but it was still an overly delicate, unreliable (spotty flash synch) picture taker. So, I sold it. Still, I missed the feeling of it, so I backtracked and obtained a nice Canon 7s rangefinder to replace that 1960s Canon feeling. The 7s is so much nicer than the SLR! The Canon 50 1.4 in LTM is better than the 58mm f/1.2 in FL mount.
Zeiss Super Ikonta B. This introduced me to the breed. It showed me that medium format could be compact, and fast shooting. I got rid of it, but I regretted it. Since then, I've replaced it with a Super Ikonta BX, C, A, and an Agfa Super Isolette.
Leica Summicron 50 and 35 ASPH in M mount. They were mint, and coupled perfectly with my M7 RF. I decided to get the LTM equivalents which cost way more, focus to only 1m, but then the LTM models could be mounted on my Canon 7s. Now, when I spin on and off the LTM-M mount adapters, I often think that I would have been better off with the pure M lenses. However, I don't plan to get rid of the LTM versions, as they are hard to find.
Nikon 180 f/2.8 ED. Great lens, but bulky and it had no tripod mount. I hardly ever used it. Now, my son is into sports, and I could probably use it. I may have to get a 135 f/2 DC to compensate.
My feeling is that if I sell something, I end up buying far more to compensate for the feeling of loss.
