Canon LTM Heads up- Canon VT-De Luxe BLACK FINISH

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
It looks like chrome under the wear marks, and the white lettering on top just does not look bright enough. The paint on "Canon Camera" and the serial number looks a little weak. Note the bright white lettering on the shutter speed dial, which was original in black on all of the Canon VT's. The rest of the white letting should match up to it. It is very pretty, but looks like a nice repaint job done a while ago. It will be interesting to see how it finishes out.

I had the same thoughts as Brian when I looked at the pictures. I haven't checked Dechert, but it does look like a repaint over chrome. The bidder is a well known Canon buyer, and may be just taking a cheap flyer at his current bid. I wouldn't bid at this point, feeling as I do about the paint. I would bet the reserve is over 1K, if not, definitely a repaint and the seller aware/suspicious.
I'd have to have more information, and preferably hands on look to really know enough to judge. The color of the model name at bottom does look allright to me, to add to my confusion.

Thanks for the info as I am new to the Canon LTM cameras. I wasn't sure about it because I have never seen one in black.

I missed an opportunity to get one (in chrome) back in Annandale, Virginia before I moved to SoCaL. It was being offered at $79 dollars with lens. I didnt know the camera at the time. And, I didn't understand the trigger winder either.

I know better now, I could have had a real sweetheart of a deal.

The bottom does look pretty legit, and so does the self-timer lever.

I kinda got to wondering whether this might be a camera that was originally factory black, and then something bad happened to it -- maybe dropped, or banged into a door, or something else that irreparably dented the top cover. And then somebody resprayed a chrome cover in black, and re-filled the engravings, rather than making a "panda"...

Interesting to speculate, but as Harry says, if I were interested in buying I'd want to get my paws on it first.

Interesting speculation on the possible replacement of the top cover. That would also require the painting of the winding knob, etc. Assuming it was done over the chrome plate, it probably wouldn't last/hold very well. The proper job would be to remove the chrome, and start from a base. Doubtful that anyone went that far. The fill on the lettering just doesn't look "right".
A camera that's 100% OK would be worth several thousands of dollars in this apparent condition. A mongrel would be worth? To someone who had a camera with a good top and bottom problems, it could combine into a winner. That would probably be the best solution, if what we are guessing is correct.
Either way, it would have to be subject to a hands-on inspection.
