This thread fits my mood right now.
Hello, my name is Brian and cheap old rangefinders will be the end of me. I discovered them at the beginning of the year after shooting exclusively SLRs. I now functioning: two Canonet GIII 17s, an Olympus 35DC/35RC/XA, a Yashica Lynx 14 and a Leica IIIc with a bad Summarit.
On the table, I have a disassembled FED 2 (turned out that the shutter curtain spring was broken, haven't been able to justify putting it back together), a Minolta 7sII I just picked up and a Moskva 5 with a slight bent strut/loose screw I can't reach as I need to take off the shutter assembly which I haven't figured out how to reach.
On the floor, I have a bunch of cameras I bought in bulk with the intent of fixing and selling. It includes a half dozen Canonet GIII 17s (most of oily blades I can't reach due to front elements that are hard to remove), a Walz Envoy with infinity focus problems I haven't tracked down. And bunch of almost working cameras needing testing including a Ricoh 500 and 500g, a Taron Robin 19, an Auto S2, etc.
And while I do feel totally insane, I go back and forth between absolutely frustrated by dead ends and great fun sorting out issues.
Maybe if I can repair and sell enough of these cameras I'll step up into a serious rangefinder in the future. Evidently I have no problem buying an infinite number of broken cameras for $3 each but can't bring myself to put down enough money at once for Leica glass or a modern rangefinder body. It would be easy to chalk this up to liking cameras more than photography, but I'm out shooting these cameras weekly.
