If I were you, I'd sell the camera that would yield more cash in the sale. Chances are it's the M4, so sell that one and keep the M4-P.

BTW, I have all the M4 variations and cannot part with any of them. I like them all. I took them on trips to Europe, with different lenses (in 2012 I took the M4-2 with a Konica Hexanon 35mm, in 2018 it was the M4-P with an Elmarit 28mm, and in 2017 the M4 with a Zeiss Biogon 35mm). Each one has a different personality to me.

Best of luck with your choice! 😉

The M4-P also has 75mm framelines. The M6 is essentially an M4-P with a meter.

And BTW, the M4-2 and M4-P were NOT produced at the same time. The M4-P was produced after the M4-2.

Here is what I wrote , check it : " Look again, the M4-P is the later made M4-2 with a finder with line marks for a 28mm lens and and the letter P stamped."

Nowhere there did I write they were made at the same time.

... What would you do?
Actually, I didn't vote. To be honest I'm not sure what I would do in this situation. If I had your preferences, I'd likely sell both and get an M6. All of the things you like about the M4-P are present in a black M6 - and you'd have a meter. At the point it needs to be serviced have the flare resistant condenser added to the RF.

Personally, my favorite M is the M2.

Touchy, aren't we? I wasn't referring to your post ...

... I believe that the M4-P was given the "P" for "professional". I think it was produced at the same time as the M4-2; ...
Here ... Perhaps I should have been clearer who "and BTW" was answering .

Well, why quote my post then ?

Because the first part of my answer was addressing your post about the 28mm framelines. I certainly meant to offence.

No problem, I don't want to be attributed to something I never said or wrote.

I'll even forget that you just wrote " I certainly meant to offence".

In a perfect world, Leicas never failed.
They do, finding service folk harder and harder.
Therefor keep both, one as backup!
That's what I have done for years.
Maybe truth somewhat different, you don't want either..?

My M4 came unworking and free. The chrome was worn to brass on the top plate
A colleague needed a Leica microscope part ( we both worked for Leica) so we did a trade.
He rebuilt the M4 and I gave him the microscope part. It took a year but when finished I showed it to our Leica tech who did all the tests and asked who did the work.
When I told him, he said Oh he was trained at Hasselblad and can fix anything.
So now I have a factory spec M4 brassed and lovely and would not part with it.
My M4-P came new in black chrome and does not have the same aura.
I don't sell Leicas as they increase too fast.
And how much beer money do you need?
Cheers
Philip

The opening post to this thread says a herd of Leicas; suggesting more than just two.

I'd want to know what the others are before answering...
