Help with MG1

Having owned a Lynx 1000 for 35 years I found an MG1 at a good price. Maybe not! The shutter does not seem to function in the auto mode. The yellow light is always on no matter where I put the ASA or exposure control. Note the yellow light only comes on when I press the shutter half way as it is supposed to work. The red light never comes on. In the auto mode if you press the shutter all the way the shutter is reacting as if in bulb setting and stays open until button is let up. In flash mode the shutter seems to fire at its proper 1/30 default. The Duracell PX32A that came with the camera reads 4.32 volts. Is that my problem?

It should still work at 4.32 volts. It sounds like a possible POD problem to me.

I'm not a huge fan of the GSN even though I have one, as well as an MG-1, and it may be because I've not used either of them very much. I've read about the POD but I don't know exactly what it is. What does it refer to, and what are the symptoms?
