Hi all, I have a Minolta Hi-matic 7s whose film rewind button is stuck in the depressed position. Usually opening the film door/back would reset it, but that's not happening now. I have run more than 20 rolls through the camera, and it was working OK until now.

Is there any way of fixing this without opening the camera? (I suspect not, but in case anyone knows a trick for it, please let me know).

If I do have to open it, what's the best way to go about it? In the past I have opened the top of the camera to clean the RF mechanism. But I don't have any idea about getting to the film rewind button - what do I have to watch out for when I remove the bottom plate?

I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to proceed! Thanks --- Karthik

Have you tried to open the door and manually moving the sprocket roller in the direction of the take up spool to reset it? Usually the button pops back out when you put film in and wind it the first time.

Yes, but that didn't solve it. The sprocket roller moves easily in either direction. It also has some movement in the vertical direction (along its axis) - not sure if that is normal or some spacing washer type thing has dropped off.

Remove the bottom plate and look at the release button. There should be a small lever engaging a slot in it. Just push it to the side & you shold be fine.
It may be old lube & can be remedied with a touch of Napthat/lighter fluid.

If the shutter blades are stuck due to grease migration, the shutter will not release, The transport will reset when film is advanced by cocking the shutter. carefully removing the front lens cell will allow you to "free" the blades. I suspect you need a shutter cleaning.

Himatic 7 are well built.
