Canada, eh.
Sorry for the gear-centric nature of this post. I just packed a camera bag to take with me on my family's trip to visit other family. I have a wide selection of gear to choose from, and for this 3 day visit, I packed a Nikon F4 with 28, 50, and 100mm lenses. (The 50E lens is on the camera while the 28 and 100E are wearing rear caps that have been epoxied togethers. This results in the 2 lenses being mounted back to back, which keeps them from rattling around against each other.) I may still slip in a flash in case flash is necessary or desired.

So I was wondering what gear other RFF members took or are planning to take, on a holiday trip? It's interesting because you have to match your gear choice to the situation.

On a trip last month back to the East Coast to spend Thanksgiving with my family, I took my Fuji XPro1 with my new Fuji 16-55 f/2.8 lens. It handled indoor scenes with family quite well, as well as outdoor scenes for the few times I shot outdoors in the often inclement weather.

It sure made traveling easier with only one camera and one lens 🙂

Same as usual. Film M with 35 or 50 and bw 400 film. For pictures I personally want. And Canon 500D with 24 pancake for shots I don't want or can't take on film.

One day I will buy second battery for M-E to have just one camera and lens, but if Cuba, I'll buy in local Walmart water proofed digital Vivitar camera and load Smena-8m with expired Kodak slide film 🙂

Hi Frank. For the last few trips travelling relatively light, I have taken my Nikon F100 with HP5+ and 28mm f2.8 Ais, 50mm F1.8 Af D and 85mm f1.8 Af D. This all packs neatly into a Lowepro Nova 160 bag. I think your choice is good to go. Like you I favor fast primes over zoom lenses as I don't pack a flash and like to make the most of available light.

The holiday trip is interesting as the focus is generally not on sightseeing or photography but rather family, a bit different from the travel bag. I'm off visiting some family interstate who have a new baby, and I bought my M6, 1.4/35 pre-asph summilux, a load of Fomapan 400 which I shoot at 250, and a mini table top tripod. It is all loaded into my new Domke F6 (Christmas present from my wonderful wife) with room to fit in general family paraphernalia as well.

As much as I like my Fujica 901 kit, I often take my kit with a Contax 167mt (Yashica FX3 for batteryless backup) The dedicated Yashica flash, and pockets for film or other accessories.

I originally got that kit to take to Germany, and use an FX103 camera. I didn't want to carry and have to keep changing lenses as often. The trip never panned out. I also often take a 6 MP P&S for occasions like that. My 8 yo niece was given a small camera to use Instax film. She was delighted.

Merry Christmas, Frank! May you enjoy the time with family and may you carry the memories for the rest of your life.

No need to apologize for gear questions. Here, I don't even consider gear at all. Not anymore. It seems it doesn't matter what gear I use, if any, I am happy with what I bring back whether it is a photo from a cheap camera I just had in my bag, or if it is a written story that I took the time to write the next morning in my quiet time.

One way or another, I now come away with my stories and memories without the distraction or stress. It seems things have changed.

Enjoy your family, time is running out way too fast for each of us.

My wife and me are planning a two days trip (it's short, I know!) and I plan to bring only my Nikon FM2T with the new Daguerreotype Achromat Lens 64/2,9 to see which results I can get from this particular lens on Ilford XP2s
And in the bag I'll had a small sketchbook and a couple of pencils...
Main reason for the trip is to visit the Jungjin Lee exhibition at Winterthur Museum

Our travels were only for Christmas dinner at the sis-in--law's place. I took my A7ii w/my new FE 28mm f2 lens. Wish I'd taken some more with me as the view from up on the hill was the clearest I've ever seen it. You could literally reach out and touch Catalina Island. Really missed an opportunity there, but at least I got some photos of it with the 28.

I spent a few days in a cabin with my wife and friends. I took my go-to gear: M5 with 35 Summicron v4 and 50 Summilux Pre-ASPH (E46), If with 21 Color Skopar, and a few rolls of Tri-X (to be processed in Diafine).

Going to Sapporo for New Years and the m240 + 35 lux asph FLE will be my main shooter. Can't decide which 50mm to bring so will take the both the 50 lux asph & the Noctilux
