Just fondling my new lens...pondering the tiny nature of the thing in general and the almost not there lens hood in particular.

Is that little hood effective at all?

Hi, Steve!

Although I've only run 1 roll of film through my "R" with the 75 mounted, I didn't notice any flare problems. Having said that, I'm contemplating using a friction-fit (slip-on) hood I've got to see if there's any difference. I might even explore the rubber screw-in versions...

Regards!
Don

Yes, cameraquest says lh-2.
I'll wait for now though. If it'll flare, I'll be able to get it to out here in AZ.
We do sun related stress tests out here to be sure.

You have my personal gurantee that the standard lens hood is not adequate for shooting into the sun. Try it on a few shots, I am sure you will get lens flare as the hood is not long enough.

I am not sure why no one believes me.

Wayne, I believe you 😉

I don´t need another hood, but maybe tomorrow I´ll change my mind after ruining a good photo :bang: .

I believe you too, Wayne 🙂.

After experiencing annoying flare with the included, wimpy hood, I now use the LH-2 with my 35mm f2.5 all the time, even though it blocks a bit of the viewfinder.

I don't want to believe you Wayne...'cause I'm cheap.
I'm forced by this cheapness to learn all lessons the hard way.
But in this case, since I did ask, I better go buy that hood.
Dang.

I haven't noticed the 35/2.5 Color Skopar to be particularly prone to flare. It's brother the 50/2.5 Color Skopar has caught some flare for me. The LH-2 hood is a nice hood though and fits both lenses.

The included ring shaped "hood" seems to serve the purpose of bumper or guard better than shielding the lens from oblique light.

yeah the little lens hood holds the lens cap real well😀 I think it is the LH-2 that is listed for the 35 on Stephen's website. I have the LH-1 which also fits [I think that one is a tad wider for the 21-25 etc.] and gives a bit better coverage
