I can easily go without laptop for days... if there's a computer around. 🙂
But seriously, when I'm at home (according to my wife) I glued to the internet or working on my photos. That's of course when I'm not out to do groceries, to work, collecting my kid from school, cooking or shooting pics. All those things my wife doesn't see usually, as she's out working too. 🙂
When on vacation, I don't care for pc's or the internet. During my many visits to Mongolia, India or China, lasting 4-5 weeks usually, I end up in an internet "cafe" less than once per week for a few minutes to leave an email for my parents. Last vacation, to Istanbul, I didn't even bother to send an email (we were away for just 8 days).

I am not dependent on the internet. I am not. What kind of question is that. How offensive!! I do not consider 16 hours a day except when I am out shooting to be a dependence. it is just a hobby. I can quit anytime I want to. I am strong. Strong as ox............. Oh no here comes my wife, I got to go.

It's an excellent source of photographic information. Thanks to the internet I've been able to get manuals for most of my old cameras. Plus lots of other information and other people's photos for inspiration.
I'm pretty dependant on it, unless I can find something else to focus on.
And I put my computers to sleep ... who turns them off?

Apparently, according to my wife, I'm not overly dependent on the internet, I don't get too engrossed in a photog book or magazine, I don't spend too much time putzing and tinkering with cameras or taking pictures or editing them on the computer. Anyway, I think that's what she meant. What she said was, "You don't do anything!" 🙄

All my life, since I first began reading seriously, I have wanted what I now have: a readily available source of instant information on virtually all possible subjects. I make NO apologies to anybody about being online nearly 100% of the time. What really galls me is when some moron suggests this is that same thing as being addicted to TV, which I hardly look at. What rubbish...I have the life of a 24/7 researcher in addition to my regular life. I get a bit smarter and a lot better informed every day.
If the web isn't the defining invention of our time, I'd like to know what is. Only cell phones have sparked as much change in so little time.

I love the internet personally... Through all of it's quirkyness, miriad of problems i still have to say that I am dependent on it. Not to say that I couldnt live without it if i absolutely had to... but it has become far too valuable to simply not use it and enjoy it for all that i can.

Boy, this hits close to home as the wife and I were discussing the attention the computer gets just a few days ago. It seems as though a few of you other gents may know of what I speak.
While I maintain that I don't get 'twitchy' when I am off-line for prolonged periods, I do like knowing that I can see friends from around the world anytime I choose. As others have stated, the internet is a great research tool, and many times it is just plain fun. Is that so wrong?! 😀

Oh, golly...it's a good thing I gave up TV over 20 years ago, or this would be intolerable. I spend way too much time online in general, and RFf...well, let's just say galfriend gets a chuckle out of it most of the time, which is fortunate for me. Most of the time it's information-gathering, as opposed to just aimless wanking-off (though I do enough of that as well...online, I mean). But it's insiduous: galfriend asked earlier tonight about a quote from Shakespeare regarding "forgiveness", and I answered, "Let's consult the Oracle, shall we?" (No direct reference to Mr. Ellison's Oracle, either.) A blessing and curse, wrapped up in a package you can even put in your pocket. 😱
Many technological advances have been a bit of a mixed blessing, but the 'Net has been, on balance, a Good Thing, if also a black hole for spare time amng some of us. If we ignore most of the trivial facts put before us (yesterday's revelation for me: Paris Hilton, sans makeup, is actually rather attractive. Shame about what's between her ears), there's a lot to learn. There's also a lot that awaits right outside the front door. And sunlight and air, in reasonable doses, still do great things for mind and body. To paraphrase Steve Jobs, technology hasn't been able to top some things.
