so before using this like new gsn as my main camera for the daily commute I wanted to know how well the lens is sealed against dust say from my coat pocket or bag. Also is there a hood for this thing? I hate using filters.

Can't speak for the dust, not yet anyway, but there are hoods up on eBay now and then. There was indeed a Yashica hood intended for the GSN. I keep meaning to pick one up actually....

I'd throw on a UV filter to protect the front element in case the cap comes off (as happens to me) - especially if it's not going in a camera bag or around your neck. Never used a hood.

I got a 55mm lens clip-on cap for my Minolta's rokkor, and it stays firm on. But it keeps falling off the yashica's same 55 mm thread, as soon as I touch it. What's wrong with it? I use the same filters for both, and the thread is exactly the same.

I prefer a hood to a filter, never put a scratch on my summicron (knock on wood). I'm also the type who would scratch the hell out of the filter cause i never use a lens cap when shooting with a rangefinder, too many frames wasted cause I didn't realize it was still on :bang:

I use the original clamp on hood for my GS.
I purchased a CLA'd Electro from rff member owlsplace. He did a wonderful job.
Roger seems to have anything you need, I bought 2 hoods along with the GS.
Go and contact him! (He's also on the evilbay, under the same name).
