Indeed, but it won't be an M and I have my doubts about what sort of lenses will be offered. It would be hard (or impossible) to build this at the existing factory alongside the M10 but there's always Portugal...

The M10 with B/W only would really have to be special. High resolution, full frame, no preview, slimmer body, more mechanical like the MP. Priced around 5K or under. Now that would sell as a carrier for some quality lenses. The lenses would be selling like hot cakes. Leica would make more money on the lenses than the camera itself.

Sounded right until the price... 😀 It'll be $8,000 or more if they do it.

If Leica made an M10 B/W (super sharp and high dynamic range), it would be a daring move indeed. And I would think that they will sell a lot of these as well. I can see it being the "new secret weapon" for high-end wedding photographers.

Of course there is nothing preventing them from coming up with the M10 Color version after six months and have the cake and eat it too.

That is always a problem with 3 or so year model replacement cycles, there is always a new improved model in the pipe. If you have an M9 and it meets your needs then upgrading immediately is not that important. Just the other side of that coin.

I don't have an M8 or M9. If the M10 is not really a significant upgrade, then the M9 seems to be choice for me. Then, that would be my digital camera for many years, hopefully.

I recently bought an M9-P, abandoning the idea of waiting for an M10. Basically I now have a perfectly brilliant 54 year old film camera, the M2, and a days old digital equivalent, the M9. I don't need all the subsequent iterations of the M film Leicas and I certainly won't need the next iteration of the full frame digital Leica. Or the one after that, or the one after that.

Meanwhile, with the move back to Wetzlar my advisors tell me that the M10 is a way off yet.

I have enough "brilliant" old cameras to keep me satsified, so the digital M camera can wait. I am still in the film camp, but I am ready to add an M digital camera..

I think a lot will depend upon the how well the M10 is received.

if perceived to be a home run, M9 prices will likely take a tumble.

if not well received, not so much.

but by this point in time, Leica has some experience building digital cameras.
So my guess is the new M10 will be a winner.

It depends also on if Leica deviates from the typical M looking/acting camera for the M10. That could turn some traditionalists off and make the M9 retain value. I'm sure they learned how fussy its customer are after the M5 though.

I think a B&W only M10 will coexist with a M9 and might only hurt M9 sales perhaps like how an Apple IPAD might hurt Apple's sales of more powerful computers.

I do think that there is a strong possibility that a B&W only M10 might surprise the market and be more revolutionary rather than evolutionary. My understanding of the Phase One B&W sensor indicates that a similar Leica B&W sensor could offer three times the resolution of a same megapixel color sensor.

I think the bottleneck that exists for Leica glass will get worse, and because demand will outstrip supply even further, expect bigger price increases on the already hard to obtain Leica glass.

I bought my exc +++ M8 more than a year ago for $2200 and it still seems to be worth about the same. I have no desire or need to have the latest and greatest, and am willing to be "one-step behind" and take advantage of the new model introduction to move up one step. So, if the M10 is real, I just might be looking to sell my M8 (hopefully for about what I paid for it) and get an M9. I wouldn't and didn't want to pay the price for a new M9 (or a new M8 for that matter) when they were introudced, and would certainly not for the M10, which will command an even higher price. I have not had any problems whatsover with my M8 and have been very happy with it, despite all the negative problem reports that abound, and that mine (thankfully) doesn't exhibit. The main reason I would move up to the M9 is for the full-frame, and secondly for the higher resolution. All my Leica glass of course is still there and perfectly usable, and I could even sell all my UV/IR-cut filters to boot!

Cosmetic condition plays an important role but still
this at $4300 is the lowest I've seen so far.

Its no secret many internet pundits are predicting the M10 will be introduced by, or even before Photokina 2012 (Sept).

In other words, there will be a lot of used M9 and M9P's up for sale as their owners move on to the M10.

I can't help but wonder how low used M9 / M9P prices will go later this year.

Time will tell.

Any foreseeable improvement over the M9 would be relatively small, so I can't see the M9 prices going that downhill. It will not be like FF against crop factor.

Unless the M10 is a FF, M mount digital Barnack. Then I'll eat my words.

If the M10 is the mythical 40Mp, high iso champion with in body IS, liveview and hybrid finder accepting M mount lenses with rf and electroinc focus confirmation and a silent shutter and it costs £2k then M9 prices could fall to les than £2k.

Unless they go down the route of the M9 Titan style of frame lines, that's an interesting change.

High ISO is cool and everything, but personally I'm happy with 400/800 ISO on film, and see no reason to change on digital. I don't own an M9, but the relatively low performance on high ISO would be a non-issue for me. Hell, I liked my Sigma DP-1, which 400 ISO really is your limit, and ideally, ISO 100.
