DR Summicron without Eyes,
1.5 Nokton Aspherical

So, I probably should have made a thread to this, but wide angle do you like to complement your 50mm with?

I was considering the 25mm Zeiss Biogon offering, but I'm unsure.

When I order stuff from KEH I tend to see what cheap bgn 50mm ltm's they have to pad my shopping cart! Shipping overseas is expensive and it does not cost anymore to add another Elmar for example. That's my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Leica:

50mm Summicron black
50mm Summicron silver
50mm Summicron DR
50mm Summilux E43 (pre-asph)
50mm Summilux E46 (pre-asph)
50mm Summilux ASPH
50mm Noctilux f1.0

Canon:

50mm f1.4 LTM
50mm f1.8 LTM
50mm f1.2 LTM

geeze that's a lot. It makes my problem much more obvious when typed out....

This is the whole idea behind this thead! Guilt is creeping up on us ... :D

Simple question but difficult to answer. I have one 50mm lens for my one film SLR. It's an old 1.4 "non-Super" Pentax Tak. I answered "2" because I included the 35mm Nikon I own for my DSLR, which is 50mm equivalent on full frame/35mm film. The fixed lens Fuji rangefinder I have has a 45mm focal length, as many/most do, but I didn't include that because it's not "50" though it's in the "normal focal length 50mm range". So, although a simple question, I could have answered 1, 2, or 3... It's tempting to own many - as others here have answered, because they're plentiful and the cheapest/fastest focal length, it's an "essential" focal length, and you may own many cameras systems and have one or more for each... Also, since they're relatively inexpensive on all systems except (goes w/out saying) Leica systems, It's an easy thing to get gas about to buy to check out/fool around with... There are worse ways to waste money than playing around with old 50mm lenses.

I'm down to just one - a 50/1.4 Super Takumar screwmount, thorium glass and all - but it's a very good lens.

My 50s just keep multiplying. It really is amazing how many good 50mm lenses are out there. Huge selection in LTM ones. I seem to always find "just one more" that I dont have and like. There is no end to it ;)
I'm afraid you're right, but it can be fun. Two more arrived recently from our forum host, a pair of nickel Heliar 50's, one f/2 and the other f/3.5. I'll enjoy exploring them.

Six for RF:
CZJ Tessar 2.8; J3 and J8, in Contax mount.
I 22; I 50 and I 61L all in LTM
For SLRs:
Carenar 50/1.7; CZJ Tessar 2.8/50 ; Meyer Oreston 50 /1.8 (two of them); Helios 44M4; Helios 44M7, and an old pre set type Helios 44M. Of course, all in M42 mount.

5 for RF, and have been meaning to sell 2 for the past year, but cant get myself to do it!
(i just want to keep the Lux, the Summitar, the Cron v4: the Summar and Cron v1: I have to let them go sometime ..........)

If we're being technical, just one: the 50mm f/1.2 AI-s for Nikon. But if the so-called "normal" range of focal lengths of say, 40mm through 60mm is allowed, I also have the 45mm f/2 for Contax G.

I put down 5 or more but the real answer is "not enough".

Standard lenses, 50mm on miniature format, are the most flexible and useful of tools. Combine that with the different styles that exist (Triplet, Tessar, Sonnar, Double Gauss, etc) and you have some things that other lenses can't really approach.

In order of acquisition:

Industar 61 L/D
Jupiter 8
Industar 50
Summar

I have a pair of collapsible I22s and a Summarit 1.5 in queue to sell. I haven't used them in ages. I just need to get organized and make it happen.

I haven't used the I61 since working on the shimming as it was a ways off. I'll only end up keeping it if the sharpness blows away the Summar. The I50 and J8 are sticking around as cheap/easy to replace lenses for conditions where I'd rather not risk more expensive gear.

If I may be allowed to included 55mm lenses with my 50s then I have 7:

Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.8 LTM
Canon FL 55mm f/1.2
Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 SSC

Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AIs
Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI
Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 pre-AI

....holy cow

Well, that makes me feel much better. I have about half as many. Or three fifths. Anyway...I feel better.

For me one seems to be too many yet zero is not enough.

I will buy a 50mm lens thinking I'll use it.
Then when I don't I sell it with a body.
Then the process begins again... :bang:
