+1 female! I've been shooting with two M3s & 35 and 50 Summicron (1989 & 1990) & 50/2.8 Elmar (1963) for a few years now. I was passed down a lot of equipment from my dad and I recently acquired an RD1. I read more than I post, but I read a lot and have found some great photographers here.
 
It looks like about 5.8% of M users are female. This is right in line with the demographic from this poll, which shows the RFF population to be 5.6% female. I think the 0.2% difference is negligible.

EDIT: since first posting this a couple minutes ago, the numbers have gotten better for female M users vs RFF members - it's now 7.1% female M shooters! This indicates that women prefer leica cameras. ... right?

I'm female and I shoot an M6! I consider my main area of interest to be underwater photography. See the following link for some recent images taken in Grand Cayman last month:

Last fall, though, I bought an M6 and am greatly enjoying it, especially compared to my bigger and heavier D300. I have two lenses for it, the 35mm Summicron and a lens I just bought from Brian Sweeney, the Carl Zeiss Jena lens with a Jupiter mount.

Holy, apparently there's also gearheads that are not camera-related! This is a shocker for me😀😀😀.

Maggieo, any chance we can hear you rip some strings somewhere online? Electric guitar alwas gets my attention, especially when Hendrix cloning is involved😀😀😀

I think women are less likely to fiddle around with camera gear but tend to pick what they like (qualitywise) and stick to it for shooting!

Unlike me for instance, the eternal fiddler/tinkerer... and I'm in good company here, there's lots like me here. Although, the outdoor season is coming, I have two outdoor shoots planned already, less time to tinker and more to shoot!

😀 ... Renee Geyer was big in Oz in the seventies ... I saw her live a couple of times. She's still around and to me remains one of the best white female soul voices I've heard!

I have an obscure suggestion for you gals!

How about one of you starting a thread that can only be contributed to by female RFFers ... the guys will be free to browse but can't post and will have to keep their noses and opinions out of it.

It may bring a few female lurkers out of the woodwork and encourage them to post without the risk of incuring the usual patronising remarks when a new 'femme fatale' suddenly appears!

Of course this may be a really dumb idea ... please feel free to tell me so! 😀

Have you ever heard of Jo Ann Kelly (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo_Ann_Kelly ). She was an outstanding female blues singer that unfortunately died much too young. I still have one of her albums bought when I was an aspiring blues guitar player, though much less talented than Jo Ann Kelly 🙂

This is an outstanding idea. But I suggest rather than starting a thread, what about the idea of an entire forum to which only ladies can contribute to? I spend a fair amount of time over at www.nikonians.org and they have a dedicated ladies forum over there.
