How to adjust shutter curtain brake on Leica CL?

Hi All,

I'm new to RFF and new to rangefinders in general. I got myself a Leica CL but I have a problem with the shutter.

The first film I ran through it showed a dark band on the side where the shutter closes. I did extensive testing with a DSLR and a CRT TV screen to figure out what was happening. I eliminated shutter capping and concluded the opening curtain was bouncing back in the film frame. I cleaned and relubed the shutter, adjusted curtain tensions to the lightest still reliable value and calibrated them to match my DSLR (check out my test rig: simple and accurate 🙂). Sadly, the shutter bounce remained.

In the CRT test I can see that the curtain only just clears the image frame before jumping up again. When the curtain comes to rest (tested on the B setting) it is still about 0,3mm in the frame instead of clearing the frame by 2-3mm.

I was looking for the shutter curtain brake to adjust it in order to catch the curtain 3mm lower than it currently does. However, I can't find the adjustment anywhere.

Does anyone know where to look for the shutter curtain brake on a Leica CL?

I can see some unusual marks on the speed selector disk. Could this be the remainders of brake material, with the brake being pressed against the speed selector disk from below?

In any case I can't seem to find and adjustment screw.

Hey, I'm wondering if you got something on this? I'm in for getting the shutter to go a bit faster again. Mine is too slow and the half second sometimes doesn't close at all (the second curtain closes when I change the speed).
