hu! a $575 m3

why, it's 2 bucks more and beat up?

Nope. The other seller has a poor feedback rating and Henry's has a 180-day warranty. And M2's are really, really cool. Especially with a Canon 35/1.8.

mmm...my 1959 catalogue lists M3 bodies at $270US and the M2 at $216. Some people want the Eldorado, others settle for the Toronado...
Although you need the bug-eyed 35mm's for the M3 there's one important factor to consider...you can get a minty bug-eyed 'cron for $800-$1000, but try to get one of those 8-element lenses without the eyes for the M2 and you'll be paying twice that.
Agreed though, Henry's always wants a good buck but the risk factor is drastically reduced.

I deceided to push the buy it now button last night. I looked at his feedback and saw he had sold a mint IIIG and minty M3 with very good feedback. The only issues he had were a couple of sales that had not arrived. Could have been postal problems but overall his feedback was fine.

I thought it was a fair price for one that's in decent shape except the vulcanite. I've been looking for one like this that has good metal but I would'nt feel to bad about recovering it. I deceided to order the camera leather companies brown ostrich which is special order and give it a try. I need another Leica like a hole in the head but I thought it would be a fun project. I'm even considering sending the metal pieces to a gun refinisher and having a special finish put on it. The gun finishers can put a number of new tough finishes on it even in colors. I've thought about polished chrome, brushed chrome or black chrome. I've also thought about green covering and green parkerizing on the metal.

What finish and leather would you do? Use your imagination and check gun refinishers through google and come up with some ideas. It might start a trend. How about army green camo leather and metal?

I had serious trouble myself trying to stay away from that $400 M3 at pnet...

And btw, congrats to the new owner ! 😎

I would make sure the rangefinder prisms are ok before I spent $$$ refinishing the body. Go back to the CRR Luton link and browse the site M3 prisms/rangefinder. BTW, I would not have a gunsmith disassemble a Leica.

My 2 cents.

I wouldn't do it. There's a guy in Japan who does this job, and CRR Lutton in the UK does it too. They're better, but the Japanese guys charges quite a bit, and CRR is backlogged for about 2 months.

Sorry about wrecking your trendsetting dreams, but I think there was once a military green Leica M6. If I were you, I'd just recover it with a leather piece from Morgan Sparks or from Aki. Just choose a nice one if you want to resell it, or a wild one for a conversation piece.

Anyway, use the camera too! 🙂

I went wild on two Leica MP a la carts. I have one red and chrome and the other black chrome and black ostrich. Ican't deceide on this one exactly what I want to do. I just see it as fun and don't have any intention of selling it.

Actually I thought about buying a new top plate and exterior parts from a supplier on evilbay. I've seen raw new parts for a fair price. I thought then I would send it to a gun refinisher for a nice finish. I've had a couple of custom pistols finished in brushed hard chrome and they are stunning. I really cant deceide on wild or brown ostrich and keep the chrome.

I was just joking with my wife about getting the new parts and having them painted in Barbie hot pink enamel with pink lether. Make a Barbie comemorative and sell it on evilbay. I could even distress the paint to look like it had been played with a lot. It would come in a pink box with pink satin. Just funnin about this ;<)

How do you think commercial clients would take the pink dream?

Ray,

The new parts cast a different light. Do check out the prisms though.

Pink enamel and pink leather? Hell yeah! NOBODY would mess with you shooting a camera like that! Be sure to wear some classy stiletto heels when using the camera. 🙂 🙂
