hunt for 90 is over!!!

well, I must be living in Hades, because didn't Joe always say it would be a cold day there when he starts buying Leica gear?

and it's currently -3 degrees (F) outside right now.. and the clincher that it's hell is that it's a gorgeous sunny day out.. maybe I'll take the Holga for a spin, as the Plastic Fantastique isn't as likely to freeze to my skin

and the 90 is here!!

travelling in country with no customs storage to fret over, the collapsible 90/4 elmar has arrived in short time.

it looks new but there is some haze on it. it looks to be on the element directly behind the aperture blades. i need some new scredrivers has my narrowest blade is a touch too wide.
unless i grind it down myself tonight the cleaning will have to wait till the weekend.
but it looks great otherwise.
there is a certain teutonic beauty to it.
completely different but not necessarily better than the canon beauty of their lenses.

like blondes and redheads, both lovely but different...

a collapsible 90 is cool!

it looks more like a 50 when collapsed.
focus seems very good and aperture is easy but crisp.
very nice indeed.

now i really am looking forward to the collapsible 50.

Joe, try Windex or a similar no-streak glass cleaner on a Q-Tip for the lens elements. Should get them squeeky-clean. The 90 Elmar is an easy lens to clean and you should be able to reach the back of the front element without having to remove it.

While I have your attention, would you please make my request for black barrel Hektor & Elmar lens data a sticky on the new LTM forum?

are you talking about reaching in from the mount side?
i tried it and no change that i noticed.

i think there was a thread on taking this lens apart here...somewhere.
anyone have it bookmarked?

Sorry, Joe. I was thinking you had a rigid Elmar which is very easy to clean.

Don't try any of this lens cleaning (or operate heavy machinery) while taking back-pain medicine!
 
The Leitz is strong on this one... a collapsible 'cron, a collapsible 90 Elmar in less than a month...

Do you hear "35 Summaron" whispering in the air?
 
no, this is it.
the m3 has fl for 50/90/135 and i now or soon will have that.
the canon 135 will fit in nicely when needed.

the m3 with 2 collapsible lenses seems ideal for my shooting style.

Don't forget the option of using a 35 with "goggles." ;)
 
Hi Joe, I wrote a little about dismantling an Elmar 90.
The lens head unscrews easily after you loosen the small screw in the tube.
Then it is pretty easy to unscrew the rear retainer. Then you should be able to shake out the next elements. They fit in snugly.

And stay away from ebay....there are some items on my watch list that I know you may swoop in on in your weakened state.
 
But seriously, how is your back? It is surprising how limited you can be when you have a real back injury. Once you can, I have always been told by nurse friends that the best thing you can do for a strained back is to go for a walk.
