I think x vs y threads are great stuff myself because I do learn something from them. If I see a thread that doesn't interest me then I just don't open it. Isn't that what a free society is all about?
there is a difference in how a member versus a moderstor views a forum.
those threads that may be a more 'provocative' that a member can 'choose' to ignore are the very ones that a moderator needs to pay particular attention to.
i am coming very close to my 25k post and i think it just might be my last as a mod.

if they let Lulu Rozencrantzs back in - it would make things a bit more interesting! 😛I take your point. I skip over them for the most part. Anyway, they are not as interesting as they were since Bill Mattock stopped posting - I didn't always agree with him but always enjoyed his posts.
This continued debate (if that is what it really is) is one of the few dull aspects of photography - let's move on and just take more pictures, with whatever type of camera does it for us

others have a point to make and state it in a way to bang people over the head with their absolute infallibility

I have no issues with most topics that come up on RFF. The thing that does bug me, is condescending posts. These posters' only purpose seems to be to demonstrate their obvious intellectual (and photographic/artistic, but mainly intellectual) superiority over the rest of us. If this happens to actually be the case, then I wish they'd either add positively to RFF by starting "better" threads, or find somewhere else that is worthy of their presence rather than negatively participating in those threads that are beneath them. There seems to be more intellectual posturing and one-upmanship here lately as opposed to sincere discussion. Debate of the topic seems not to be enough for some, who attack and belittle the person offering an opinion rather than the opinion. This creates an unpleasant atmosphere, and isn't at all necessary or desirable, IMO. YMMV
