I'm just posting to thank everyone for helping me decide on a second M body to go with my M6 - I posted here a little while ago and got lots of great suggestions and info.

Ideally I think an M4-2 or M4-P would have been best (I wanted a 35mm frame, so the M3 was out), but the few of those that I've seen were quite expensive and I really didn't have so much to spend. (The idea of a Hexar RF was also an intriguing one, but that would certainly have blown my budget).

Anyway, I just got an M2 from an eBay seller. It's a 1964 one and has been well used (quite extensive wear around the strap lugs - which I actually think looks quite good), but it had a CLA in April 2007 and is mechanically excellent. The wind-on is smooth (if perhaps very slightly "looser" than my M6 - but it is 30 years older), the shutter sounds superb (and sounds about right at all speeds), the viewfinder is really bright and clear (I even think it's a bit brighter than my M6), and the rangefinder accuracy is spot on. I paid £310 for it (approx $620), which seems like a good price for one that is mechanically so good and has had a recent CLA.

Congrats!!! My M2 is my favorite camera to use.

Good luck with yours.

Some months ago I bought a user M2, not to go with another M as I have none, but because it is the Leica I had salivated for since the late 1960s, even during the 17 years for which I had an M3. It is the last camera I shall buy; unless I need to replace the digital SLR I use for bread and butter work.

Thanks folks. I really do like the feel of the M2 already (and I have got some work done today, honest - I haven't just spent the day fondling it 🙂 ). I think I'll take an hour out tomorrow to go and shoot a roll of Tri-X in it.

And, you know, I can already understand how one might not be enough 😀
